Kelly Pavlick knocks out Jermain TAylor..Sickest Fight
« on: September 29, 2007, 10:40:45 PM »
TAylor knocked down pavlick in the second, but he stood his ground. In the seventh, he knocked out Taylor in the corner with the ref stopping the fight. Sick fight.

Brutal KO. Nobody could have stood up to those shots in the corner. He was holding up Taylor w/ shots

They would get severely owned by tier 3 fighters in "the cage".

What a crock of shit. If it was all stand up fighting, then you're dead wrong. Pro boxers don't train for grappling and martial arts. The sport is called BOXING. MMA's best standup striker would have quite a challenge on their hands against a world class pro boxer in a boxing match.

Jermain Taylor would fucking OWN a guy like Chuck Lidell in a standup boxing match.

Ask these same 3rd tier cage fighters why they never pursued a career in pro boxing(and the potential millions to be made) but instead elected to get their brains beat in for bum paychecks on lower level shows.

Hmmmm....... ;)

Makes you wonder.

Isn't is obvious ???  Boxing is a corrupt sport that is on the decline.  The best guys never get a title shot and 99% of fights are complete snoozefests.  MMA is on the upswing, you get to see top ranked fighters fight every other month and the money gets better every year.

Besides, we all know what combat sports is all about...finding out who can kick whose ass.  MMA is the closest we have to real street fighting.

Hope that helps.

Corrupt as it may be, boxing still trumps MMA when it comes to payout purses.  Plus, with MMA being on the rise as it is, don't you think corruption  is soon to rear it's ugly head?

MMA is super technical. However because it moves so fast I don't get a chance to enjoy just how much skill is involved. Just as hockey involves tremendous skill you can't appreciate it fully because it's such a fast sport. Watching a guy systematically wear down another for 12 rounds then cap it off by finishing him in 6-8 shots is far more enjoyable to me then a scrum where one guy lays on the other elbowing him to submission.

If MMA does get to the size of boxing you will see just as much corruption and dick eating. It will probably be worse due to the amount of substances one has to take to keep up the frantic training and demands of a sport like MMA.

One more thing that turns me off to MMA is the average man seems to think they can do this sport to some level short of expert. It's like watching Bernard Hopkins fight then going and sparring for 12 rounds. You can't do that. Yet I see clowns acting like they thrive on the chance to break peoples legs and act macho.

Bullshit. It's painfully obvious to me that the real reason these MMA guys never pursue a career in pro boxing is NOT because of corruption and politics.

It's because they know in the back of their minds that they're simply not good enough to compete on that level.

Everyone knows that the average pro MMA guy can more than likely kick a pro boxer's ass with MMA rules. So fucking what? The two sports are entirely different in terms of rules, style, and oh yeah....MONEY.

If I had a dime for every jerkoff that says a MMA fighter can kick the shit out of a world class boxer, I'd be rich. In the boxer's world where their rules apply, an MMA fighter would get his ass handed to him against a world class pro. Vice versa, a boxer would get dominated in an MMA style matchup.

MMA may be on the rise as far as popularity goes, but pro boxing will ALWAYS be here to stay. It's not going anywhere. The paychecks the top level guys get PROVE THAT. The money has to come from somewhere whether it be admission gates or PPV numbers.

I enjoy both sports and I don't waste my time imagining the two crossing over with one another and dreaming up head-to-head scenarios which would never take place.

Hope THIS helps.

More fights like this one is exactly what boxing needs. The fight was fantastic.

Fights like this just confirm that watching a great boxing match is better than watching just about any other sport. IMO a great boxing match trumps a great MMA fight.

One thing people forget is poverty breeds great boxers. The type of poverty that makes a man hungry enough to suffer brain damage and potential death doesn't exist in America anymore. Wrestling which most kids do can naturally go  into MMA. You don't box unless you have a good reason or are forced to due to lack of other options. I saw guys in my boxing gym that were literally fighting for their lives.

I agree. And with MMA increasing in more and more in popularity, I think it benefits both sports. You're going to see more and more matchups like Taylor/Pavlik in the future simply because the public will demand nothing less.

There's an article floating around some where on maxboxing or espn about just that. They said boxing is doing a media blitz per say by setting up 9 big matches ending with the Mayweather bout. Putting stuff on cable, matching guys who otherwise would be reluctant to fight.

I don't understand why MMA fans in particular can't seem to handle the thought of 2 popular combat sports. It's silly.
