Mack Strong retiring

after 15 seasons with the seahawks hes decided to call it quits.

guy was an awesome FB and will be a great loss to the seahawks.  :'(

"As reported Sunday on Seahawks.com, he had a stinger that had caused loss of feeling in his arm and his fingers. He didn’t play after the first quarter. After tests Monday revealed he had a herniated disc in his neck that is pinching the spinal cord, Strong called his wife and mother to warn them.

After 15 years with the Seahawks, their 36-year-old Pro Bowl fullback announced his retiring"

Fullbacks are a dying breed in the NFL these days. But the ones that are still thriving like Lorenzo Neal are badasses.


If not for that neck injury, I think Strong would've played another year or two. I love fullbacks and some of the great ones are largely reponsible for the success a lot of feature running backs have enjoyed in NFL history.

Lorenzo Neal, for example has blocked for the following 1,000 yards rushers that I know of:

LT
Corey Dillon
Eddie George
Dalton Hilliard

Not a bad list.

Moose Johnson blocking for Emmitt Smith comes to mind also.

dude i remember neal with the oilers ..,it was the biggest backfield in the leauge...i loved it....


the falcons have a big sum-a-bitch back there mahalie or some shit like that...but there are no absolute head busters in the leauge no more....everyone does these gay one back sets...i hate it...im a proformation guy....i formation with a tight end

So far, just one legit head buster still playing................L orenzo Neal. That dude is a rock.

One of the most thankless and underrated positions in pro football, I'd classify Heath Evans as fullback, he catches som passes out of the backfield but is mostly a blocker and goalline type guy.  They must take a beating clearingout those DE

He was really good before knee injuries did him in.

Floyd wasn't near as good as Tom Rathman. 

Strong was a great, great football player.  I'll miss him. 

Fullbacks are pure studs.  Smart.  Strong.  Tough.  Selfless.

He really liked that guy in his heyday. I'm suprised I forgot about him.

Yep.  These guys get very little press.  They don't show up on the stat sheet very much.  You don't hear their names called during the game (unless it's for a penalty).  Unsung heroes.

Keep an eye on Reagan Mauia.  UH grad and starting for the Dolphins as a rookie.  He's down to 270.  Calls himself the juggernaut.   :)

The Eagles have Thomas Tapeh...I miss having guys like Jon Ritchie and Cecil Martin, true fullbacks. Tom Rathman...where have you gone???

Terrelle Smith is pretty good.
