Does caffeine actually stop weight GAIN?

I'm reading about it, all these thermogenic effects.  I like it cause it keeps me awake.  Also energy before the gym.  But in the offseason when trying to add muscle, is it preventing me from gaining weight?

i drink 8-10 cups of coffee a day and still was able to gain close to 50 lbs over the last 3 years.  would i gain more if i drank less coffee?  i doubt.

what is that prescription they sell now, "alli" or something like that, does it really work- make you lose weight?

caffiene is a stimulant. it suppresses appetite and boosts metabolic rate for quite soem time after its ingested.

so yes, it could help you stay lean while bulking. but IMO, its not a wise idea to rely on it so you can munch on some extra calories. its mentally and physiologically addicting, to a mild degree. and youll have to drink more and more to get the same effect.


IMO, caffeine can be a great asset to a bodybuilder, when used sparingly and in the appropriate places.

caffeine is a stimulant throught the mechanism of blocking phosphodiesterase in the electron transport chain. after g-coupled proteins activate adenylate cyclase which causes the formation fo Camp. camp is then broken down and recycled. camp is a high energy intermediate hence caffeines blocks its breakdown increasing energy temporarily.

this can increase energy,metabolism but can have negative effects overtime, namely downregulation. you will find that caffiene HAS to be cycled in order to be effective. you will build a tolerance to it, and your body will downregulate phosd. which will make it worth shit, other then to cause side effects.

i would stack caf with eph for a short while then cycle off. add fish oil and sesamin to the mix to agonize PPAR to get  a great fat burning effect.

so the answer to your question is no in the long term, and now you know why.

caffeine causes competitive inhibition of adenosine receptors.

so caff structure can bind to adenosine receptors blocking adenosine(which normally inhibits shit, slows you down) and this causes release of epinepherine from the adrenals  and increases dopamine by blunting re-uptake.

basically it increase catecholamines, and gives you some euphoria and energy.

caff is the shit for energy in short periods like 2 weeks but the constant release of adrenalin will wreck your body in the long haul, and depress your immune system..

the only time id take caffeine for long periods is with green, white tea as it works synergistically with egcg, and other phenols.

This is 100% exactly what's happening to me. 600mg caffiene and a superpump 250 before I work out. Now I'm focused on bulking up but can't gain wait, and I'm eating big!
