For example, smoking a joint in public?  How many episodes of cops show police officers arresting black people aggressively under exactly that circumstance?

now cops around here are not too bad about little shit like smoking some green in public..if they catch you or see you doing it they'll tell you to put that shit out and let you go on with your day. If instead you give'em the finger or tell them to mind their own fucknig business then it's your ass. Respect goes both ways.

This is true.. People are just like "pigs!" or "mind your business" and what not.. I've been respectful and they've never given me a hard time.

Resisting arrest is a big problem.  I don't care if you were a robber or a junkie, you don't resist arrest and if you do you get put to the pavement.  If you watch the whole show you will see that they are given the option to go peacefully and ARE TOLD that if they do not cooperate that they will be put to the ground.

that's right..you'll get treated MUCH better when you do what you're asked to and cooperate with it. They're just doing their jobs..and 9 times out of 10 htey're just putting you in the back seat or putting you in cuffs to let them perform their jobs EASIER and not have to worry much about what you're doing or what you COULD do. Don't give shit and you won't GET shit from the man.

Queens. Police haven't broken my balls or anything.

Of course I've seen them come late during an accident, but that wasn't much of a problem.

Matt, police have to enforce the law. It's their job.. I'm more critical of politicians as I think drugs should be legalized.

But it's nothing like victim role that people portray. Don't be blazing one in your front porch in a packed urban neighborhood.. That's just not very smart.

Yep, that's it.  Rich people can do all the drugs they want in the privacy of their homes, but the poor and homeless go to jail for doing the same things because they have no home to do it in.

Truth is - as always - somewhere in the middle.  :)  Black people DO play the race card a lot, but that is not to say it is not based in reality to some degree!

It is not simply your RIGHT to resist an illegal arrest - it is your DUTY.  And in fact, in supreme court rulings, you have the right to escalate force as much as necessary to resist an unlawful arrest up to and including taking the life of the officer breaking the law in that instance - it would be considered involuntary manslaughter.

man the amount of time i could've done for public intox and just stupid shit i've done is ridiculous..but I haven't...because i'm respectful to the police and they appreciate it. Alot of times they'll just warn ya to calm your happy ass down or make sure you're not driving and have someone wiht you to keep an eye out for ya. They dont WANT to give you a hard time and DAMN sure don't wnat the hassle or the paper work. But I'll be damned if there isn't one mother fucker in our group everytime that has to yell FUCK THE COPS or I SMELL BACON when we go out to the bars and sure enough they come right over and "investigate"

most cops are smart enough to use discretion, honesty pays off, and the respect goes both ways.

In all honesty, cops only react to how you act (most of the time)...they are people too. ..Personally, NYC police have always been really cool to me.

While I understand what you mean......the reality is, that SOMEONE has o do it.

Yes, someone needs to provide a buffer zone from the stupid, reckless victimizers in society.

Funny thing is, though, cops are known to be equally stupid AND it's been shown that they've got the most similar psychological profiles (to career criminals)!

Cops and crooks really deserve each other. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to deal with them.

In terms of the scenario you argued, then there would not be an illegal arrest.  If you are innocent of a charge and there is not enough evidence to hold you then you will go free.  Many times suspects are put in handcuffs for officer safety, NOT for arrest.  The suspect is dumb and assumes arrest is imminent and then resists, trying to get away and that leads to another charge.  Being put in handcuffs and being mirandized are two different things.  Good try though.
