I recruited one from the Macy's store and he referred the other in house lp detective. I went to training with them and other LP managers and detectives in the NYC metro area. They were spot on and these guys worked well with the store managers and associates. As far as money, BR paid good money because the store we were in was the biggest BR in a mall location (17 registers alone and a football field in length). They were spot on catching thieves...omg I remember this one time, a sales associate called us on the radio. A gentlemen brought 7 leather jackets to try on (remember customer is always right) well this dumbass thought he was slick trying to send the sales associate everywhere in the store for sizes for pants and stuff..little did this dipshit know our in house camera system actually worked. long story short as the thief passed the point of purchase(meaning if we the employees had reason to believe he was exiting the store without paying and followed the steps for stopping an individual) the two detectives stopped them they ran into the parking lot (our doors also went into parking lot)..the detectives nabbed them in the parking lot and brought them in the side shipment door. One of the thieves took a lung at me and I said oh u idiot..funny thing 2 off duty cops were in the parking lot. They had 7 leather pants 3 leather jackets and 2 skirts in their pants.
Now I dont know where you live, but make nice nice with the cops. If you dont know any of them, go to the station and introduce yourself. My regional lp manager and myself did that. Let me tell ya what a big difference that made. I barely dealed with mall security they were too dumb for words. I know a few managers pissed off the police department, because after the cops found stolen merchandise on a few theives, they said they were two busy to pick up the merchandise. and as you know if merchandise isnt picked up quickly once the cops are done with it then it goes into the evidence room and is a bitch to get out and not to mention goes against inventory as unpaid until you bring it back in the store. Well none the less the cops called the lp regional manager and he called me and asked if i could pick up the merchandise (it was my day off) i said no problem. Well to stay on the good side, they called me if the managers couldnt pick up the merchandise. Oh yea, every now and then, I got permission got a paid out to bring snacks and sodas to the police station.

Outstanding work.  I work in the Baltimore area and I've already met with the cops working my areas.  I don't worki in a mall so we really don't have any kind of "security."

So how much were your guys making approx?

this was back in 2001 (pre 9-11) about 14 bucks an hour and after 911 about 16-17 an hour ( we were about 15 miles away from world trade center..the mall we worked at was closed on sundays so they each had every other weekend off (except holiday time)..they had every sunday off and another day off during the week...
