Sorry JB, as tragic as this sounds, I don't see how this policy of systemic racial discrimination "far trumps the previous evils that have beset this cursed land". If anything, it sounds a little milder than what has been par for the course in previous times. At least they are not seeing their families forcefully ripped apart, and they are not being hunted down and shot for sport.
Ah, I don't think I was entirely clear. I was not comparing this particular form of discrimination and the current Afrikaner's plight alone to the entirety of Apartheid. Instead, I was stating that the whole of SA is comparably worse than compared to Apartheid and the previous tribal conflicts before the Europeans arrived. One of the highest murder rates in the world, worsening conditions for all peoples there, repossessing of productive farmland and reallocating it to squatters, ignorance and stupidity at governmental levels, it never ends.
I like to look at the solution, however, and not dwell on the problem. Obviously, Billions in aid from predominantly Western nations has not helped much. Reverse discrimination and a call for Reperations will not help either. Blaming Europe and the US for it's problems is not going to help. These appear to only pander to those who may otherwise see those as a possible solution, but is nothing more than political maneuvering.
What do we do? I'm at a damn loss, and don't think anyone has a solution. What would I do? Cut off all aid. Refuse to exploit the continent of it's natural resources, with the exception of equivalent trade between nations. All peoples of European-descent must immediately leave and find homes elsewhere in the world. If Africa wants to butcher itself on religious and cultural differences, let it. Maybe after several generations the continent will wake up one day and see that mass killings, savagery, and primitive tribalism is a failed way of life and will change accordingly.
I just grow weary of all the supposed "do-gooders" who send or demand money be sent over there only do so because for the most part, it makes them feel good as individuals without wondering how and why that money sent could be damaging. I also grow weary of the blame game for others' problems. Hell, the West could TRIPLE it's efforts monetary-wise and you'd still have the same problems, probably even worse off.
It's damned frustrating. I've been to Haiti several times, as well as time spent in Ecuador, Panama, and Columbia. Again, I'm at a damn loss. I'm almost numb to it all, and just accept that poverty and suffering is just the way it is. Have all the Live Aid concerts you want, it will always be there. Selfishly, the only thing I'll do is try to keep myself and close ones away from having to experience those conditions ourselves, and if it means that others will have to be kept in poverty because of it, so be it.
