USAs economic crisis & NPC national shows

The Hyatt Regency , the host hotel  in Atlanta,GA. for the upcoming NPC Nationals is far from being sold out.
Will this be the first National Show that we'll notice the effects of the current economic crisis ?

Even muscle worshipers are feeling the financial crunch.

A lot of us are flying out for the NPC Nationals, and it should be a good contest.

As for the economic crisis, I talk to many who are worried about how deep the recession will be.

When you have the big three automakers talking about running out of cash, which currently they are down 30-40% in terms of selling cars for the last 2-3 months, that is a big problem.

When the stock market is now 40% too from its high, a lot of people have lost a major savings who never thought they would see that.  Will it go back up.  Of course, within a few years.

On a local level, it is a little different. People will stil buy supplements, will still compete, just like they will still go to the movies.

What people dont do is buy expensive items, aka a $2K television, or go and spend $1K for just a weekend, or go spend $2K on football.

yes, but what about the Non-INDUSTRY folks that cannot right-off travel expenses, etc

sure Pam, Jon & Co. don't have worry about not buying those 2K TVs , this year . anyway !!!

On a local level, it is a little different. People will still buy supplements, will still compete, just like they will still go to the movies.

the group of people who buy (legal) supplements have very little overlap with the people who compete or even the people who attend contests.  there are a few million people who buy supplements who have no intent to ever step on a stage.   there are a few thousand people who compete, and other than protein powders and PEDs, buy few supplements.   (one would hope that by the time you're ready to enter a contest, you'd have learned that NOX and all the rest have no significant effect on muscle building.   "I gained 20 pounds of muscle on MuscleTech and 600 mg/week of cypionate." )

will a deep recession affect contests?  people will be less likely to travel, or travel with fewer family members.  and most of the audience at contests are family members.   Perhaps the contestants will just be locals.

The Japanese stock exchange still hasn't recovered from it's peak 20 years ago.

with less demand the price will drop in many instances.  those prudent with dough will be ok.
