Mass building Shake Recipe
« on: February 22, 2008, 05:21:37 AM »
For those who are interested, I thought I'd share a delicious recipe I concocted for a roughly 1400 calorie mass building shake.

In a blender...

1 1/2 cups water
5 ice cubes
1 banana @ 70 calories
2 tablespoons organic peanut butter @ 200 calories
4 tablespoons flax oil (barleans brand) @ 440 calories
1 handful frozen raspberries @ 50 calories
Blend
add 1 scoop Mega Pro carbo hit @ 220 calories
2 scoops bsn true mass (not 3 scoops as label says. too sweet) @ 420 calories

You think you utilize all those calories at once?

Curious, isn't 4 tbsn. of Flax @ 12 g. ea. (~48 g. fat) plus 2 tbsn. PB (~22 g. fat) a bit excessive?

60 g. fat per meal is a bit much, just my opinion...

1400 calories is insane to eat at one meal.

Insane...yes
Crazy..yes
Effective at putting on weight...
Effective at putting on lean muscle mass....not exactly!
Too many calories and fat to eat at one meal. Divide the shake in two and drink between meals and it will be less likely to be stored as fat. If you are training hard enough and eating every 2-3 hours and also in the middle of the night there is never a need to drink 1400 calories in one sitting. Unless of course you have a Dorian Yates or Ronnie Coleman metabolism and then it doesnt matter how many calories you eat in one meal!

I never get up to eat in the middle of the night. I get up to pee in the middle of the night

My metabolism is absolutely crazy fast. I eat almost 6000 calories daily, I'm 39 years old and I don't and haven't ever done a lick of cardio. My stomach is far from shredded but it is flat and that's all I care about.

I'll admit I did trim the shake down a little. A little less p butter and I cut out the carbo hit. It's closer to 1000-1100 now. I was having trouble eating my regular real food dishes because I was too full!

Eating in the middle of the night is the best time...keep you growing while you sleep. Just think if you did some cardio and cut a few more calories you would be shredded!! Why not give it a try?

Seems like a lot at once, but everyones different i guess. Sounds good though. Although i gotta agree, seems a bit high in fat for a single meal. Me personally, i'd divide the shake in half, 2 serves, and you would utilize the nutrients more effeciently IMO.
No doubt about it...

Just not a priority for me. I like my sleep. I train 7-11 people daily plus own a gym (I do everything such as advertising, finances, etc etc etc) and then play with my 1 year old after working 12 hours. So after dinner and a pre bed shake, I'm ready to put up the do not disturb sign. I'm more into being strong and healthy. I feel I look pretty good and am relatively big (6'1 220ish) but being shredded or a mass monster doesn't really interest me.
