Ansante Samuel signs 6 year deal with the Eagles
« on: February 29, 2008, 06:04:41 PM »
I think the Pats f**ked up bigtime letting this guy get away. I think after he was franchised last year and not signed to the huge deal he was seeking(which at the time was underserving), he had it in his mind to leave after the '07 season.

He proved again in '08 he was worth a multi-year deal. The Pats may draft well, but Samuel is a proven playmaker that brings his A game every Sunday.

Big loss.

The pats didnt have the money to Sign Asante this year. The pats have a system, and they stick to it. The system seems to work pretty well if you ask me! The pats had a lot of turnover on the team this year, and there is no way the pats could have kept Asante considering the money he wanted...

The pats will be fine... The mediots said the exact same crap when the pats cut Law and Milloy. Pioli and Belichick know what they are doing, and they do not value the cb position as much as the qb and the lines.

The pats have a slew of draft picks this year, and they will draft a cb. The draft is LOADED at cb this year. Rodgers Cromartie is a stud, and I would love to see him play for the pats.

Guts tell me....The pats have roughly 20 million in cap space to spend this year, and they have a bunch of needs to fill. Colvin was cut, Wilson was cut, Jr will retire, Moss is free agent, Gaffney and Gay are free agents, and they need some fresh blood at lb. The pats had to resign Woods, Alexander and Washington. Not to mention the pats have to pay all there draft picks, including a top ten pick! How could the pats afford to pay Asante Samuel 47 million bucks up front and stay competative? There is no way on this earth the pats would give any cb 10 million bucks in gaurenteed money per year. That not how they run the team.

The pats put all there money in the lines, and the qb. That is how it has always been, and it will stay that way because it works for them. Do I hate to see Samuel go? Yup, but the pats where the ones who drafted him, and they will replace him just like they always do when they lose a key guy. Just ask Willie McGinest, Deion branch, Lawyer Milloy, David Givens and Ty law.

It just looks to me that the Pats intend to replace veteran leadership through youth by drafting. Even though the draft is loaded with db's, it doesn't guarantee that this year's class has a superstar in the making. That's the chance you take with rookies no matter what round they're drafted in. And know they're about to lose Gay also. You can't always rely on the notion that any NFL team can just plug in rookies or 2nd year players after they lose a proven veteran in the offseason. The salary cap continues to increase each year and it allows teams more flexibility to hold onto their core players. There's even talk around the league that the NFL will go one year with out having a salary cap in a few years.

Samuel was a 3rd round pick so the Pats obviously have a great scouting team and front office.
They could've franchised him again, right? I would have in order to keep him and work out a long term deal after '08. I just think Samuel was too good to let go. He's still young, he's a proven playmaker, and he hardly ever plays a bad game. Some players are just worth keeping and I think he's one of them.

Plus, I don't think the Pats will keep Moss either. I think Jerry Jones from Dallas is about to offer a mother load contract offer that will be too good for Moss to pass up. Money talks and Moss wants long term security just like any other player.

We'll see.

I don't have any notions. The pats did not have the money to sign samuel. The eagles overpaid for Asante, and that is a fact. I have watched Asante play since he was in college. He is a very good player , but to tie that kind of money up in a corner considering the system the pats run would be crazy.

Pioli and Belichik know what they are doing, all the same people ripping them are the same ones who ripped them for signing guys like Moss last year. They do what is best for the team.

Money can talk all day long, I will take Pioli and Belichik calling the shots over Jerry Jones and Wade phillips any day of the week. Im not worried , there has been massive turnover before, and the pats have proven they can win consistently with there formula.

I sure hope not.  I hate the Cowboys.  Can't stand Moss or T.O. either.  But . . . Moss, T.O., Witten, Romo, and Barber would be hands down the best set of skill position players in the NFC.

I'm just holding on for the ride.

Moss signed today, 3 years 27 million. The eagles offered a bit more, but Moss stayed put. This is why the pats let Asante walk... In the pats system, the front seven are responsible for generating the pressure that creates the bad throw. The pats rely on zone more then man.... If you notice Asante always played the same side of the field no matter the reciever. The pats dont value the cb position as high as the lines and lb's in there system... What makes Moss so valuable is the fact he commands a double team everytime he is on the field. Welker is a beast, but Moss had a pig part in his 112 catches and 1200 yards.

I wish Asante the best, but I knew this is what that money was for.

This is moss growing up a bit i think, he knows his best chance for a ring is with the pats so he passed up the money for a better chance

Wow. Could you have imagined if the Eagles landed both Samuel and Moss in free agency??

Didn't happen, but what if...

That would have sucked, but I knew NE would would sign Moss in the end. 16 million guaranteed over three years is a freaking bargin imo.
