lads here's my take on UFC 82 *spoiler*

fitch vs wilson

wilson looked good coming into this fight. did a great first round. not an easy debut to come in and fight someone like fitch with 14 straight victories! fitch bored the hell outta me i cant wait to see him getting beaten.

leben vs sakara

went just as i predicted and ended with a tko. sakara got some quick hands but thats not enough, not sure what good it did for him dropping a weight class either. leben got a decent record and always brings it, no wonder they bumped that fight to the main card! good shit.

okami vs tanner

well ufc is not doing tanner any favors bringing him back after 2 years to fight okami thats for sure. he looked stiff and a bit outta place and going up against okami man that aint easy. okami looks good, very well rounded and showing a lot of variety.

herring vs kongo

im disappointed in kongos game plan. he had that fight in the bag. herring is a fat fuck that bum rush kongo and of course due to the weight advantage was able to hold him fairly well on the ground. kongo should've moved around more and kept it standing, then going for a couple of takedowns to score points but he spent too much time on the ground, even making some lame attempts at submissions... the longer he spends down there the bigger the risk he gets turned and held down by herring. still not sure he DIDNT win though, it was a split decision after all, would have to watch it again to be sure.

silva vs hendo

well tough one to predict. i definitely think silva got some holes in his game, i think travis could've beaten him. silva looked a little nervous coming into this fight, he knew that fighting hendo is a total different ballgame than fighting franklin. hendo got the tools to beat him, if they fight again i would bet on hendo - again.

koscheck vs hazelett

fight of the night? great fight! ive talked some smack about koscheck on here (even though not near as much as some other people!) but i gotta admit he looked great in this fight. always in shape. mad strength. explosive. great takedowns etc and now an improved stand up as well! good shit.

Fitch was boring.  Not sure WTF happened to him.  If he gets a chance at GSP, he'll get annihilated.

I felt bad for Tanner. He looked frail.  Back to the bottle I suppose.

Kongo is way overrated.  WTF was he thinking taking this to the ground?  He cheated us out of a stand/bang war.

I'm very impressed with Silva.  He fought a motivated Henderson and managed to do what Rampage couldn't.  This was a good fight for Silva.  He lost the 1st round and managed to come back and win.  He needs to break whatever the record wins with a title is and then move up a class.

Kos looked better than usual.  That was a decent fight.

I felt the same way until this fight.  He finished Henderson...that's impressive. Who's left in his weight class?   In his post fight interview, he said he wants to challenge a 185 pro boxer to prove MMA is every bit as technical.  Hmmmm....

Henderson decided to stand with Silva which was ultimately his undoing. It was the punches that dazed him and set up the submission.   He should have backed off when he was in trouble instead of throwing wild looping punches.  Silva's punches where straighter and his accuracy is better also.  Henderson should have disengaged when he realized Silva was getting the advantage standing.   His strategy for the first round was good.  He moved a lot and mixed up his strikes and that pushed Silva off balance. Henderson dominated Silva on the ground but after the first round it looks like his strategy fell apart. Sometimes I wonder if its ego or pressure from fans and the promoters that convinces a fighter that standing and exchanging punches is a good decision. Sure it is exciting but literally one punch can rock a person and its just not worth it if both fighter begin the exchange fresh..  It is  shame because Henderson had a good chance at dominating this fight.   Despite winning Silva showed weaknesses last night.  Henderson can win if he employs the same strategy he used in round one.

it's a shame it didnt go to a third round, submission came with 15 seconds left of the second. hendo got the takedown fairly easy in the first round and he was able to control him very well for a long time with silva not being close to get up.

in a re-match i could see hendo winning the first couple of rounds getting the takedowns, being able to control silva on the ground, pounding on him at least by bodyshots and fucking up his breathing... then it would be interesting to a) see how silva would handle going past 3 rounds and b) how he would react being behind on points. probably opening up a little more which would give hendo the opportunity to to take him out or for hendo to win by decision.

props to silva though, he's the real deal and is the man to beat in the division. i wasnt that impressed with his fight record and didnt think too much of his wins against rich franklin, but with his current wins he's shown that he can win over any type of fighter.
