Illegal Immigration - your thoughts on this analogy?
« on: March 04, 2008, 06:35:08 AM »
from an email I received:

Let's say I break into your house

Recently large demonstrations have taken place
across the country protesting the fact that Congress
is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that
the US might protect  its own
borders, might make it harder
to sneak into this country and,
once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand
the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, 'I've made all
the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry
and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't
like to do. I'm hard-working
and honest
(except for when I broke into your house)

According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because
he is also hard-working and honest, except for that
breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out,
I will call my friends who will picket your
house carrying signs that proclaim my
RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have
a nicer house than I do, and I'm just
trying to better myself.. I'm a hard-working
and honest, person, except for well,
you know, I did break into your house
AND what a deal it is for me !!!

I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and
there is nothing you can do about it
without being accused of cold,

uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and
bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can
communicate with me.
Why can't people see how ridiculous
this is?! Only in America .
if you agree, pass it on ( in English ).
Share it if you see the value of it .

If not blow it off..........
along with your future Social Security
funds, and a lot of other things.

...now when the pissed off arabs whose wives were raped and kiddies killed rebel...the world deems them as terrorists :-\

This is good.  Really shows the absurdity of how we deal with illegal immigration.

It's a poor analogy.

First, the country is more akin to a "commons" than it is to someone's residence.

Second, the writer is analogizing to a house just so that he can get people worked up.

Third, .... whoever wrote that crap is also making unsupported factual assertions.

Illegal immigration is a problem.......

and it won't be solved by getting people all riled up by making them think about home invasion.

Massive influx of immigrants, both legal and illegal, put tremendous strains on our infrastructure.  Instead of working en masse in the agricultural field out in rural areas as many people seem to believe, they are instead flocking to the cities by the hundreds of thousands.  With social handouts such as housing, welfare, and food stamps, unskilled and uneducated migrants will keep pouring into our nation.  In addition to the influx of people, there are great strains on the electrical grid, traffic gridlock, water allocation, space, pollution, landfills, and other various environmental concerns.

When lights start going out, taxes skyrocket, commuting becomes near impossible, decent work becomes hard to find, and water shortages start to become normal occurences, there will then be a real push for real immigration reform(such as sucking up the politically correct wind and kicking the millions of unproductive noncontributing 3rd Worlders out....forcefully).

That does bring to light the absurdity of the illegal immigration issue.  Its a fair enough analogy to highlight how ridiculous it is.

I believe the administration has been hands off because cheaper labor puts more $ in the pockets of big businesses and because there is an underlying push to create an American Union.

There are thousands of trade and manufacturing jobs that are going to illegals and displacing american workers.  Yes, there are agricultural and landscaping jobs too but that is far from the whole story.  Illegals are NOT just taking the shit jobs, as was the argument 2 yrs ago.  Its trade and manufacturing jobs as well.  I have seen myself running a medical clinic where immigrants that did not speak any English were being hired to do regular work for companies.  It was sickening.  (We did their physicals and/or drug screens).  You know if they did not speak any English, they were unlikely to be citizens.  Shame on those employers!
The vast majority of experts have shown how illegal immigration costs this country and its tax-payors $.  There should be no argument about this anymore, just discussions on how to deal with this.
Legal immigration is what made this country great...the opportunity to better oneself and family and contribute to the country.

Yes. "Legal" immigrants are what built this country.  However if you cannot speak english you should not be allowed here for more than a visit.

I would never move to mexico without learning spanish, not because it may be a law, but because its to my benefit and security to know the language.

However common sense is above some people , i guess..
