Guys like beach bum and the coach... I think the thing is that they don't see any difference between the republican party of 1984 as the one from 2007.

Today's party is of a neoconservative belief - nationbuilding, pre-emptive strikes, torture, fear tactics, borrowing $1Tril per year, etc...  Reagan didn't do that.  They were DEM voters back then, so they are ignorant of history.

Cut the BS 240, Reagan didn't do but the CIA DID do it for him....we have always done this stuff; it is just less covert now.
I hate the State.

I don't know if I'd agree. The US used to be a pretty peaceful nation (at least in it's foreign policy, ...domestically it's been a whole nother story). What we've seen though is a distinct rise in these types of things committed by the Industrial Military complex Eisenhower warned about.

dude, Reagan didn't start 2 (possibly 3) massive, decade-long wars.

Whatever Reagan did, it was over quickly with minimal cost.  We're talking 50k to 1mil iraqis dead, depending on whose estimates you use.  4000 troops.  $1tril borrowed with another $2tril in longterm healthcare costs - that's just Iraq (don't forget we're bogged down way worse in Afghanistan).

It may be worth the cost.  The info out there about bases and oil is so mixed up and contradictory, I don't know what to think.  I like the idea of setting up bases in iraq. Bush said last week "no permanent bases in Iraq".  Was that a lie to appease the Dem/independent voters into voting for mccain, or did he mean it?

Iran Contra comes to mind. I'm sure, given a bit of time, I could come up with a few more. Perhaps not on the same scale as Iraq, but just as nefarious.

I bet 4000 families (and countless loved ones of injured vets) wish we could have done some shady shit like this to get control of oil in Iraq/Afghanistan...

Instead we went with a perfectly "legal" attack of Iraq... 5 years later it's gridlock, their asshole govt doesn't tell us when they're attacking Basra, then they work with IRAN to organize the battle outcomes... slap in the f'cking face.

Hehe. Well, you guys don't do any scandal half-assed, that's for sure. We, on the other hand, usually get tripped up on our own coattails and then hold a Royal Commission of Inquiry for 5 years only to release results of which Captain Obvious would be proud.  ::)    :D
