« on: April 16, 2008, 10:00:19 AM »
Do not use OTC drugs that will cause drowsiness within 6 hours of using insulin.

1 hour afterward I took 25mg benadryl.  HOLY SHIT!!!  Talk about uncontrollable urge to sleep this is it.  I have bad allegeries and just didn't think about it.  Never again.  Felt like shit for the next 7 hours...at least.  :'(

No I didn't.  I was downing regular cokes at work and sugar oatmeal like there was no tomorrow though.

so you probably yo-yo'd yourself into never never land.

Remember, if you take in that much sugar (assume almost 40 grams of SUGAR from a single coke) you are going to stimulate natural insulin production in addition to the glucagon, cortisol, and adrenalin that was stimulated from your blood sugar dropping as a result of the insulin you took.  This will raise your blood sugar, which the body will respond to by secreting more natural insulin as the blood glucose goes up, which may stimulate more glucagon, cortisol, and adrenalin production and so forth.  Then your blood sugars just go up and you feel like pure crap (symogi effect) as a result of stress hormones deactivating the effects of insulin.

A blood glucose meter is $8.00 at WalMart and a box of 100 test strips is ~$45.00.     I strongly suggest you get one and use it if you are thinking of dinking with insulin again.
