I have old (but wonderful, Apple equipment, Bulldog IP and Firefox and it's happening all over.

I've noticed the same thing.  My Scrabble website downsized last week and it's now miniature.

Then the both the BBC and the Hotmail all of a sudden decreed they'd have a new wider screen.

I've only got a 10-year old purple iMac and the new sizing doesn't fit.

More scrolling...  You can try the Text upsize option in your View menu, but that just means you have to scroll horizontally even more.

There is a little magnify thing you can download, but it takes for ever and doesn't work on MacOX10.  Google magnifier.

I'm sure it'll all work out fine eventually.  I reckon they're trying to tell us to go out and get a new 'puter.

Blame Bill Gates for stealing Apple's copyrights and making everything far too complicated (and making far too much money for doing so)  >>I do!

Although many have been updated to take advantage of bigger resolutions, a lot of applications and websites were designed for the days when monitors only had a few resolutions—or one resolution—and screen size maxed out at 15”.

Many pages retain this size as a default assumption because they don’t want to ruin the computing experience for the many people who still have small monitors.  It’s nice to have the very latest computer (as I do) or the biggest monitor (as my friend does) but it’s not fair for software publishers or web page writers to assume that everyone has the latest and greatest.

If you do have a bigger monitor it is easy enough to change your screen’s resolution and increase the default text size in your browser window.

Have you noticed that pics in the widescreen monitors make you look fat? Is there a way to fix that and still utilize the full screen?

No Squint is a decent firefox addon:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2592

Quote
NoSquint allows you to adjust the default text zoom level, which is useful if you have a small display or run at a very high resolution. NoSquint also optionally remembers the zoom level per site.
