Inside views on bodybuilidng from a outsider of bbing?
« on: May 11, 2008, 07:52:52 PM »
Hey all first i just want to say how great it is to be on the getbig boards.  I have been on others, but i finally found this one that tends to cut the fat out of topics and get to the point whatever it be. A little about me, been training for 13 years natural, mostly powerlifting/strength training, then did about a year of bbing training, got good growth etc etc, but nowadays do mostly strength but with bbing type lifting in my accessorie lifts. K K now on to the post.

Bodybuilding to me has always drawn me to the wieght room.  Pumpling Iron and films of this short have defiently had a positive impact on my life and lifting.  From reading the boards and listeing to radio shows, big nation radio, superhuman radio, bodybuilding weekly, no bull radio.  Reading numerous books over my 13 years of training etc. I have come to find out that bodybuilding is many things to many people, with many sub cultures and characters, such as any great sport.  It seems to today that bbings extreme physiques are no more wanted by most the athletes than they are of the golden age era guys  before. The judges seem to reward the bigger is better concept.  Much to my despair it has came apparent that the Gay community is a big player in the sport or at least its support of it.  Now if your gay thats fine and dandy, but i think bbing is more more then just guys in spandex, the months of prep, the sacrifices you make in everyday life, and the years of work it takes to build a physique of such quality.  Kinda dismeaning to just say hey you look hot in spandex flex your ass for me right? Why is Bbing so non mainstream? Well Bob Chick says we need WWE type storylines, I look up to Bob with the utmost respect, the man is THE MAN in my mind.  I see something different though, I happen to find that the current WWE is not exactly something i want my kids watching or sending a positive message to them.  After all isnt Bbing in its TRUE FORM about healthy living and building the body. If somehow we could bring that message to the fore front and lower the drug useage to a human level so the guys dont look like "Freaks".  Far as Drugs go, i have never used them , i have had friends to use them, and have seen the differance of use vs abuse and its effects.  Do drugs make a Jay Cutler or Ronnie Coleman, or A great NFL star?  No i dont think so, the truth is they would be good or great without them. But just not quiet as good.  I have rambled on long enough, i just say natural or non natural, old school or new school, we both can share and learn a lot from each other, and "The Community of Bbing" from the personal trainer in a local gym to the top tier PRO is missing that Golden Age commradery and good will intent.
