The surge was in Iraq not Afghanistan.
Look across the boarder of you want to see the problems in Afghanistan. The Taliban in Northern Pakistan have become the De Facto government. This has nothing to do with troop levels of the US and instead says quite a lot about Pakistan.
But you guys want to blame Bush and thats fine NOTHING will convince you otherwise.
That's b/c Bush redirected US assets from the AFghan struggle and put them into Iraq--a country absent from our war against terrorists.
Bush intentionally undercut the Afghanistan war effort to attack Iraq. Aghanistan is where the terrorists are...not Iraq:
The US military considers Afghanistan the biggest front in the battle with terrorists.
Joe Biden said on Meet the Press that "I asked General Petraeus and I asked Ambassador Crocker, before my committee when they're here, "If you have a choice only to eliminate al-Qaeda one place, Afghanistan or Iraq, which do you choose?" Both of them said, obviously, Afghanistan, that's where they live, number one."
