I miss my old Ireland
« on: August 04, 2008, 11:25:41 PM »
11 years have I lived in this country and I have seen the country from being a small country to the Industrial Call Center power it is now, much of his original charm has disappeared, Ireland is still a wonderfull country and when I do my hiking trips in the Wicklow mountains and get shelter in an old village pub I still have the same feeling I had a 10 years ago when I came over from Germany.

But Ireland has so much changed in these years and not for the good, sometimes i wish we would still life here with no money and little chance of a career.
Everybody I ask today what time they prefer they all say the old days, and of course its only human to always wish back what is gone but for Ireland it is so fitting.
Times are gone when you left your key on a string in the letterbox, today you have to watch out for people mugging you and dodge shit and puke.
I want that feeling back so bad when I came over here first, I miss my Ireland bad, very bad.

Yes the good old days in Ireland during the 70's and 80's and early 90's. When the good old boys of the IRA blew up and shot innocent women and children in Northern Ireland every day then crept back to the security of Eire in the evening. And everybody behaved themselves because if they didn't the IRA gangsters and drug dealers would blast their knees off with a shotgun.
Ah,  the good old days  ::)

In the end it's always distorted reality, because what we experience in nostalgia is never equal to what we have experienced in the past. The fact is that the past isn't really better than the present, it's only slightly different. I guess the aspiration for the perfect moment sometimes is so big that we project it back to long gone days, where memory allows us to cheat a little.

I would love to visit Ireland. I love the green!

I love the beer and the food to. Hopefully one day I'll get a chance to visit Dublin. You should be proud of your heritage, Nico. No doubt that your are. :)

The west is still pretty cool... Galway was a cool Irish experience. Dublin was just like any other major metropolitian city. Pretty hard to tell I was in Ireland when I was there. Now and then I had a hard time  finding people who spoke English  :-\

Dont forget the UDA LVF UVF UFF and RHC and the security forces who also terrorised ireland.

This may sound insane. Many people preferred when the IRA 'policed' local areas. Less crime by far
