a 9.72 with 1.7 is a 9.77 still. i.e. better than a 9.78 (0.0)

google wind adjusted times and youll find a very detailed study on the topic summarising that a 6' sprinter gains 0.03s/(m/s) of wind reading over 100m. For headwinds its actually more than that.

For taller athletes, its more..etc.. but the adjustment rule- unofficially, is 0.03s/(m/s) wind /100m.

i.e. Tyson Gay's 9.68 with 4.1 was a 9.80 still.

Bolt's 9.69 could have been a 9.61 with legal wind (using 0.04 for a 6'5" athlete).

He'll go 9.49 before he finishes.

You want his big black meat in your ass, dont you?  :-X

Try a cycle of basic test, and do some mental/reaction exercises. You will notice the difference.
Why do you think golf players also turned to chemicals?

To increase club swing speed.

Don't know whether him being tall has an affect, due to his longer stride. It will be interesting to see if taller sprinters have a decidedly better advantage than a shorter one. If so, then times will be falling fast and records will be broken, which will probably make track and field a hot sport for b-ballers getting into shape :D

I don't think I've ever seen anyone that tall who could reach his top end speed so quickly.  That turnover speed of Bolt's puts MJ's 200m record in serious jeopardy and we can expect it to fall at this Olympics.

As much a freak as Michael Johnson was, I've never in my life seen anything like Bolt, either.

Wait a minute.... doesnt he have special shoes! You cant have special shoes! Don't they have springs in those shoes to bolt him out of the starting line.  What is going on? They didnt have these type of shoes 20 years ago! Not fair. Where is the golden age of running? Before all of these special enhancements came into play!!!!

lol.....welcome to the new millenium, Ron. the same argument can be said for a lot of other Olympic sports. Swimming is the perfect example. the  speedo swimming suit, the pool and all that other technology. Imagine in the next 20years how many improvement will be made in sport technology.

The best video footage of the night was actually provided by the kid from Trinidad & Tobago who came 2nd in the race.  You would think he'd just won the biggest gold medal in history with the way he celebrated.  That little fool had me laughing my ass off, so props to him for that.

yes, winning a silver medal in the olympics shouldn't warrant a celebration  ::)

..back in his country he will treated like a king and riches will follow. If I were him I would celebrate as well.

Exactly. Every idiot thinks he can spot a drug user by looking at their traps or something other ridiculous like that.

True, but he may not break MJ's record if he's only concerned with winning the gold medal.  I thought his response as to pulling up in the 100m was telling, and if he has a big lead in the 200, he may coast in.

Records don't seem to impress him as was evident in his post race interveiw, and he appears a bit cocky.
Not sure if he will be a hit with Madison Avenue.  He certainly seems all about himself and not trying to be an ambassador for the sport.
I know Phelps is getting huge props and airtime, as he should, but after watching NBC since his race, his name is barely mentioned.  Part of it may be he's not American, but he's not proving to be the media darling some folks like.

Still, facts are facts.  His performance may have been the most dominate in sporting history, and he could get even better if he applies himself.  Very scary.

Pretty sure his earnings will go up if he breaks the world record again or is anticipated to. No need to do it all at once.

HEHEHEHEH!!

At the end of the Olympics, let me know how many track and field medals Jamaica has compared to USA.

The sport is track and field, not the 100 meter race.

Considering the injury chances, we will never know.

He could pull a hammie next week and be done, forever.

I understand wanting the gold medal more than wanting an even more impressive record time.

I know that not all people handle success the same way, but all of the Jamaican athletes I've known have always been very humble and appreciative of their success (even if they did have general disdain for the laziness they believed to be prevalent in Black America).

What I don't get - even in a 21-year-old - is him not having a desire to run his absolute BEST race in the Olympic final.

In many ways, it's unfortunate that this incredible talent is being wasted on someone who doesn't appear to appreciate it, but that's so very common with many of the world's best athletes, I'm afraid.

He is still young, but if only he will listen to some of the old heads out there on how to comport himself, he could turn that Olympic gold into serious millions for himself, his family, and his country.

If he'd smiled, and simply thanked his mom, coach, and God, he would be a multi-millionaire today.
