Megadeth vs. Metallica
« on: August 20, 2008, 06:05:21 PM »
Am I the only one here that thinks that, in terms of sheer metal power, Megadeth is light years beyond the sellout metalheads? I mean, Metallica has been much more successful that Megadeth, but those who like metal have no problem recognizing that Megadeths riffs are beyond anything Hetfield and the Swedish guy can even begin to imagine.

What do you think?

They both went downhill after a while, Metallica after Garage Days and Megadeth after Rust in Peace.

But while they were peaking, I'd pick Megadeth as having the superior technical musicianship overall, you can't compare Kirk Hammet to Marty Friedman, Marty blows him away, even Dave Pollack was better, drummer wise both are up there, bass is pretty much irrelavant.

Lyrically James was better on the first couple of albums but Dave destroyed him later. I mean, Enter Sandman is cheese any way you slice it. "Hush little baby, don't say a word and never mind that noise you heard."  ::) Compare that to Peace Sells... or Hook In Mouth. (one of the best speed riffs ever)

Both had great riffs, but I like playing Megadeths stuff over Metallica's, just personal taste.

Hook In Mouth

A cockroach in the concrete, courthouse tan and beady eyes.
A slouch with fallen arches, purging truths into great lies.
A little man with a big eraser, changing history
Procedures that hes programmed to, all he hears and sees.

Altering the facts and figures, events and every issue.
Make a person disappear, and no one will ever miss you.

Rewrites every story, every poem that ever was.
Eliminates incompetence, and those who break the laws.
Follow the instructions of the new ways evil book of rules.
Replacing rights with wrongs, the files and records in the schools.

You say youve got the answers, well who asked you anyway?
Ever think maybe it was meant to be this way?
Dont try to fool us, we know the worst is yet to come.
I believe my kingdom will come.

Chorus
F is for fighting, R is for red,
Ancestors blood in battles theyve shed.
E, we elect them, E, we eject them,
In the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
D, for your dying, O, your overture,
M, they will cover your grave with manure.
This spells out freedom, it means nothing to me,
As long as theres a p.m.r.c.

Put your hand right up my shirt,
Pull the strings that make me work,
Jaws will part, words fall out,
Like a fish with hook in mouth

I am a big fan of both - but Megadeth are superior. Musically there is far more thought gone into their songs. Metallica nowadays are just looking for as much airplay as they can get. Megadeth tried this before with Risk and gave up on that idea and got back to their real Metal style and it paid off. Last two albums are superb.

I still maintain that if another band had released "Load," it would have been a success.  Most metalheads are the worst when it comes to bands trying something different.  Seriously, as a musician, who the fuck wants to write the same goddamn songs over and over?

after hearing samples of the upcoming "Death Magnetic," it is confirmed:  United Abominations smokes Death Magnetic.  And Megadeth kicks Metallica's ass nowadays.

They were both great in the 80's.

Megadeth surpassed them in the 90's and 00's.

The first three albums by both groups are classics.

I have seen them both in concert over 5 times, awesome shows in the 90's.

Great training music.

Speaking of Megadeth, it is reported that Dave Mustaine is ready to begin work on their new album next month already...!  :o

Yeah Mustaine is awesome. I met him a couple summers ago on the Gigantour.

Megadeth has always been, and will always be, better than Metallica.

Mustaine's singing flat out sucks.  He sounds like a guy with a regular voice trying to force a scratchy one.

That would be because he's a guitar player... The former lead one from the other band in question... Also, he's a DAMN gifted song writer... more gifted than any member of Metallica in the past 20 years.

I know that, but it doesn't make him or the songs sound any less stupid.

Metallica was amazing before they got inolved with Bob Rock.

I like both, but Megadeth is better in my opinion. Also Lars Ulrich is from Denmark not Sweden...
