Tony - i actually rode out the storm at my girls house near clay road and the beltway 8W. then we stayed at my place in memorial the rest of the time because her area lost power for about a week.
Bench - you might have! did you see all those boats stacked up near the causeway? that was nuts, I-45 was covered in house parts and boats! i feel i got lucky, as my area has a lot of huge trees that feel onto neighbors homes, but not mine.
Stella - Thanks for the kind words! we are doing well and are looking for new homes for my family members. i still have several people living with me, but it adds a little excitement!...lol
My uncle wants to rebuild on the west end again, he just loves the beach and the fishing. others are looking to move a bit north, out of the flooding areas. as bench said, the 15' storm surge was the most devastating part. we have never seen a surge like that on the Texas coast before, ever. two days before the storm hit, the water was up 8' already and crashing over the seawall, this has never even been documented before in this area.
It might have been a category 2, but it hit like a category 4 and did Katrina type damage. still many people without power and homes, but life is slowly getting back to normal.
I think most people are allowed to start rebuilding on Galveston this week, but many people have no idea where there homes are, so they have to track down their concrete slab and go from there.
