What Palin reads: NY Times, Economist

I linked earlier to Palin's continued criticism of the media on Fox. But Palin also took the opportunity to answer two questions she didn't answer when asked by Katie Couric: what she reads, and to name a Supreme Court case she disagreed with.

Carl Cameron, discussing the interview earlier on Fox: "We talked about some of the things that happened in every interview proceeding her interview, including her inability to enter some questions from Katie Couric. She was not able to talk about Supreme Court rulings that she disagreed with. And there is a sense that she went back to look at the books and got her answer."

GOV. SARAH PALIN: A recent one, Kennedy vs. Louisiana where the Supreme Court will tell a state that they cannot impose the death penalty even on repeat, rapists. A state's right or taken away by the supreme court and we will not be able to decide ourselves whether the death penalty could be implemented in that. I am certainly not a supporter of that decision. Also, eminent domain. That affects me as a governor and as a mayor as well. private property rights are so precious in this nation and for the Supreme Court to have sided with government, instead of the people, the property owners, that was frustrating. Another one personally affecting me, the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The oil company decimated Alaska's coastline and much of our fisheries and coastal communities livelihood, and they sided with Exxon on the punitive damage that was to be awarded. that was frustrating.

Cameron added that Palin said she reads the New York Times, The Economist, and other publications.

(This was from a rush transcript).

UPDATE: A reader points out that my colleague Mike Allen was onto something last night on "Hardball"

MATTHEWS: But I still am stunned with her inability to answer these general knowledge questions that most people who read the paper can answer. I don`t know why she is afraid to answer them. Maybe it`s her bad training. My suspicion is that she has the same lack of intellectual curiosity that the president of the United States has right now. And that is scary.

HEILEMANN: Mike, do you think -- do you think when she wouldn`t -- when she wouldn`t answer what she -- what she reads, do you think that was because she doesn`t read, or do you think that is because she was afraid to say the local say the local Wasilla newspaper, or she was afraid to say "The New York Times"? Which of those do you think it was?

ALLEN: Somebody told me, she should have just said "The Economist." Everybody lies about reading "The Economist."

I read the Economist (no, seriously, I do.  I have a student discount subscription).   :)
