Remember: if you're going to toss the yolk, you'll want to make up for the protein (and fat) loss elsewhere.

If your were following a keto type diet, you would obviously keep the yolks. I have 4 whole eggs each day.
No doubt about it...

well, some of the yolks. whole eggs on their own have too high a % fat content.. to get enough protein in one meal from whole eggs is too much fat intake. 4 whole eggs + 8 egg whites would be good.

unless you already have a bad cholesterol, people shouldn't really be concerned w/ eating 2 or 3 whole eggs a day

someone told me the protein found in egg whites are an incomplete protein source, and the yolk is needed to make it complete.  any truth to that?

Don't think so.  They're probably talking about the avidin biotin problem, but cook the whites and the problem is gone.

Why do people use eggs as a protein source?

I mean its texture and smell is really bad... tastes like shit/nothing. You have to use like 10 eggs to get 30 grams of protein out of the egg whites. Its messy and annoying, I suppose if you have access to those lana egg whites or something like that its ok. Even those services seem really inefficient and wasteful.

A carton of egg whites is pretty easy.  It's pastuerized so no salmonella risk, not sure if pasturezation temp is sufficient to destroy avadin tho.  If you're going high protein a liquid form is a welcome option after a week or two.  How much protein can you really chew down day after day?  Guess some guys can but I find chewing 200+g a day, day after day, to be a drag.

I know, there's whey but this is just another option.

honestly = i would be starving if i ate only 200g of meat protein. if i dont get enough protein my appetite is ravenous, regardless of what else i eat (with the sole exception that if i eat an excessive amount of dietary fat , i will feel full ).  the meat proteins are the only thing that cure my hunger.

I've always been under this impression as well so if I'm not including another protein source in the meal, I always include at least one yolk.

whole eggs have a better amino acid profile than egg whites BUT egg whites are indeed a complete source on their own and in fact have a higher bioligical value than most meat proteins do. egg whites are fine without the yolk.

Both have advantages as well as disadvantages - like almost everything else in life. Unless you are dieting for a show or trying to get at 3% bodyfat, there is no reason to throw away all the yolks. They provide many benefits. However, yolks should never be consumed more than whites, because of the calories and excessive fat they have - lots of the fat in yolks are healthy and good for you, but lots of it is of the saturated variety that is bad for you, so you shoouldn't go overboard on yolks. The rule should be for you to eat 2 whites for every yolk. This will give you many benefits the whites don't have, while at the same time keeping the meal relatively lean.
