Do Not tell your boss about Rehad/Ever...If you are in the states, take the family leave act for personal health problems...He doesn't need to know exactly why...Most alcoholics are living in denial and are some of the most judge mental bastards on the planet...If your boss never hit a rock bottom, he probably won't have sympathy for you...And if you deal with money, you are really fcked...

family leave act...

Muss be up front with him. and its against the law to fire someone because they are an addict, its considered a disease and you cant be fired for it. same as in you cant fire someone because the have cancer. and leaving for rehab for two months follows that law. my brother had to do the same thing.
to be safe though so they dont just make up shit to fire you i would try and collect all your evaluations they gave you. they should all be positive being that youre good friends with your boss. hold them to prove that your performance was up to par or above it preceding your departure. again they can not fire you because youre an addict trying to get help
no, it isn't. Addicts are not in a protect class.

I really really like my job and it would be totally awesome if I could have it when I got out of rehab in two months. Any sugggestion? I have internet access in there once a day for 2 hours the first two weeks and for the next 6 weeks im allowed my laptop so I can use it during free time hours of 3pm until 10 pm.. Should I volunteer to do research or other assignments online for free while Im in there?
My boss and I get along great and he is a really nice guy, he has a drinking problem himself so I guess he can kind of relate to me.

Any tips or advie would be greatly appreciated.

thank-you for your time

It is none of his business! All you have to do is tell him you are going in for treatment.  When I went to rehab (in patient) I had the facility fax my job a form stating that I was going to be in for an undisclosed amount of time (It was like 3 weeks, should have been longer, but that is an entirely different story)  I fell under FLMA so it was cool.  My boss did not ask anyhting when I returned to work.

not sure if its in a class or not like the handicapped but i know you cant fire someone for being an addict if it does not affect your performance. my brother works for for the fed govt. and had to go to rehab and hr informed him of that. do you know other wise for sure? pretty sure i want under the wrong impression?

Agree what your private life consists of is none of his business, but insofar as it affects his business, it is his business.  If an employee is going to disappear for an undetermined period, the owner has to hustle to keep the business afloat in the meantime so you even have a job to come back to.

A business owner would be well within his rights to just hire someone else (although I don't know what employment law says about this in the US).  He doesn't have any moral obligation to support someone who is having personal problems.  If he's a nice guy he may choose to do so, but it's unreasonable for an employee to claim on the one hand that their personal life is none of their boss's business and then say at the same time that their boss has to support them during a time of personal crisis.

Not trying to bash you Mike, but that's how I see it as a business owner.  What it really boils down to is if the employee is good enough at his job to offset the cost and headache of giving him support.

And maybe your boss didn't say anything because you're a big mofo.  ;D

IMO a business owner has the right to hire/fire anybody for anyreason. his money, spend it the way he wants.

Blow.  I never used everyday, but I was a binge user and when I did i'd be gone for 1-2 days.  Since I didn't use everyday, I didn't think I had a problem, so, that was my main hurdle in getting clean.  It took some time, but i'm doing better.

Isn't that sort of a 'no answer' answer?
