Androgel over time
« on: November 25, 2008, 04:54:55 PM »
I have been on Dr. prescribed Androgel for almost 2 years.  I am lately noticing my sex drive is down.  Does anyone know if your body "equalizes" and perhaps requires more test supplementation over time?  I may add an injectable test to the mix

Do you read the board at all, Mull?

People have said that Androgel is worthless, and it is.

I hope you're not paying for that shit.   :-X

For me personally Androgel has been a lifesaver.   its worked great to get my test levels back to normal and correct the problems I was having being hypogonadal.  I've been on it almost 9 months now.  Remember that sex drive is more than just Test levels. There are several factors that can contribute to increased or decreased sexdrives.

The thing is over time, your body will "equalize" as you put it.   There can be decreased systemic absorption from topically applied hormones.   For SOME people this may be enough to require additional hormonal supplementation---including increased doses or injections.

If this was doctor prescribed, you should have been having followup testing every 6 months.  I would talk to your doctor about getting levels checked if you haven't already.

Why would you ever resort to Androgel for hypogonadism?

As an adjunct to injections, perhaps, but as a main treatment?   ???

Um because I have a legitimate medical problem thats being treated by an endocrinologist, not some HRT quack.  Androgel, or its analogs are the number one indicated drug for treatment of low test levels in men with hypogonadism.  With any type of injection you get swings in test levels between injections.  The topicals or oral "tabs" don't do this becasue you are dosing every day.   It provides a more physiological level---supposedly.

Also, this is what my insurance will cover first line.   They will not pay for injectable test until I'm on 10 grams of Androgel a day or more or i can document problems with androgel.

Have your blood work run again bro! Van was just saying that Dr. John Crisler claims that DHEA levels could be the determining factor to low sex drive.

I have already been back to the doc and had a blood test.  We will see what is up.  They are testing Test levels, prolactin and thyroid.  My last test prior to this one was 4 months ago and my test level was 675, using 6"pumps" (7.5gms)from the adrogel pump.  It has only been in the last few weeks that I have noticed a drop in sex drive.  I have even had erection trouble in the past couple of weeks.  How is your DHEA levels adjusted if that is in fact my problem?
