To be a good or great golfer does take athleticism. I have seen many people on the golf course having a hell of a time hitting the ball off the tee. Swinging at nothing but air. Putting and the short game take much skill and practice to become very good at it. And it takes skill and practice to constantly stay in the fairway. Just because Daly is out of shape doesn't mean he is not athletic. He is still one of the top 150 players in the world. He still can beat 99.9 percent of the population for 18 holes. And the tour is grueling. Try hitting 300 balls a day at the range, travel, play practice rounds on Tuesday, pro ams on Wednesday, followed by 4 straight days of 18 holes of competitive golf just to start all over again on Monday. Not to mention the time spent out fullfilling their sponsorships. Babe Ruth was fat most of his career, drunk before and after, and sometimes during, eating hot dogs during the game and blasting home run after home run. He was a natural athlete. The average human being could not go out and hit 50 home runs in a full season. Let alone try to hit a 95 mph fastball! Or even play 162 games in a season.
