need a meal replacement instead of eggs for breakfast solution.
« on: January 07, 2009, 07:08:23 AM »
anyone recommend a meal replacement instead of the same ole eggs as a protein source for breakfast. eggs 365 days year round will get old very fast, and i don't really want to have steak or chicken for breakfast either, once in awhile yes, but not alot, so i'm looking for a meal replacement that is truly a "MEAL" replacement, something along the lines of 500 to 600 calories, 40 to 50 grams of protein, similar or perhaps a bit more grams of carbs, and so on.

most replacements have the number of carbs and protein that i'm looking for but only 200 to 300 calories! (that's a snack, not a replacement for a meal!)

and the weight gainers have the calories that i'm looking for but alot if not most of them have like 100 to 150 grams of carbs! that's too much for me in the morning or at any time i think at one sitting, more like  a fat gainer, not a weight gainer!

so anyone out there recommend a high quality 500 to 600 calorie, 40 to 50 grams protein, 40 to 60 grams of carb replacement morning shake instead of eggs! thanks!

just use cottage cheese. the calories will not be high like you said, but eggwhites don't amount to 500cals either

10 eggwhites = 36g protein and 170kcal
300g cottage cheese = 34g protein and 210 kcal

Optimum Pro-Complex Gainer: 50grm protein/ 85grm carb/ 8grm fat =650 calories

Cytosport Cytogainer: 54grm protein/ 75grm carb/ 6grm fat =570 calories

These would work great, for what your looking for in a meal replacement.

My current breakfast:

50g oatmeal mixed with semi-skimmed milk.
Tea or coffee.
3 slices wholemeal toast with jam.
Protein shake mixed with water (whey isolate providing 45-50g protein)
Carb Drink (pure Maltodextrin mixed with 500ml water providing 70g of complex yet fast releasing carbs)
1 Banana

Total calories = roughly 1000.

who says you have to have eggs in the morning, no rule that says that, have some meat in the morning sometimes and see if you like it.

I always read Whey is best in the morning bc of the quick absorption.

Good choices or CNP Pro Peptide MBF too. Oatmeal with a scoop of protein tastes good.

This is another simple route to go, if you are wanting a good easy to make meal at any time of the day.

I make the exact same formula you listed, but usually blend it together. It is my basic -do it yourself "meal replacement"- when I don't have time to make my eggs 'n' breakfast.  ;D

try mixing up your powders to get the right ratio you're looking for.  you can take half a serving of a weight gainer and add a scoop of whey to it.  i do this at night all the time, one scoop of muscle milk and one scoop of whey...not to mention you can get creative with your flavors this way as well

thats a good way to do breakfast.

fast whey proteins to keep you anabolic untill those egg whites can digest.

try increasing those proteins though... with the whey do a scoop and a half to get 30 grams, and with the egg whites gte it up to 40 grams. ad i dont think your 8 egg whites is 30 grams...it differes from egg to egg...but on average an egg has 6 grams of protein with 3 in white and 3 in yolk.

1 thank you!

2 yes i was thinking along those lines.

3 You're right, i'm just cheap conservative with using too much whey ;D Ideally i should take 1 & ½ scoop and 10 eggwhites.
8eggwhites = 30g protein... i'm going by what i read on the net that one white = 3.6g protein.

I usually have 3 different protein sources for breakfast.

1. a whey shake

2. Eggs ( whole and or whites )

3. Leftover meat from the night before.

Any of these will work and take minutes to prepare.
Good luck in achieving your goals.
