Although the second amendment was not writ in order for just any old Joe to "have guns" ( "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people (said people being "a well organized militia" ) to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." It is now understood as being that, therefore in our near future we could see some agent for "change" attempting to take our guns under the original premise. However, as it is written into the constitution that "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State...." it could be easily argued that (with a little effort toward the creation of said organized group) those people who wish to defend their country from all things foreign an domestic have the right to keep firearms. Meaning in order to "take" those firearms away there would have to be a change in the constitution which would cause one hell of a division of the people forcing the nation into another civil war. Every leader of our country must realize this fact (and the fact that Texas has a very well organized "militia" not willing to give up their guns) and this is what is probably keeping those liberal ideals from coming to fruition.
