To clear things up I am 21 and just started using gear. Been training ever since an 8th grader in middle school. As far as dieting goes, I've been writing up diets for people at my gym, friends, and even family. Gave up alot in high school to be able to train hard and eat like a horse. I would get up at 530 every morning, go to the gym, do cardio, get back home to cook all my meals for the day, and then head to school. After school, I'd lift and play ball and do homework. I'd have to brag that I gained 30 lbs. all naturally in six months and went from a bench of 315 to 405 as a 19 year old at 215 lbs. All I'm trying to say is that I'm not dumb, I've thought long and hard about using gear, and I think, I've gotten enough experience where I think I will be fine doing it.
