How did Republicans yank anything out of the bills when they're the minority?

haha three key voters who yanked the $ out for that specific swine flu at the last minute.  i'm sure somebody with more brain cells than me will see the article and post it.  It was the first politicization of the flu I've seen, so I had to share it.

nah, something like 3 repubs that voted FOR the bill, did so at the last minutes, only after the dems agreed to pull the swine flu money.

it's extremely petty, but it's one of those things that will suck for them come re-election time.

This does not sound right.  They don't need any Republican votes to pass a bill out of committe, or pass it on the floor.

They were RINO's so I imagine they said they'd help the Dems if they pulled some crap out of the bill...the Dems said sure and here we are...no CT just politics.

settle down shirley, i called it extremely petty.

however it will come up in the future.  If your opponent in a senate race voted against swine flu funding, you can bet the dem candidate will point that out in every single debate and ad.

Swine Flu is a joke anyways.

36,000 people a year in the United States die via flu related illnesses and 200,000 people are hospitalized due to flu.

This "Swine Flu" is a joke.

So according to this even Sen. Schumer (Democrat) said it didn't belong in the bill.  I gotta agree with tony:  pretty bad spin.

Its a total Non-Story since this Swine Flu is equivalent to the overblown reporting on SARS.  The News networks are really whipping people up into a frenzy unnecessarily with their "Alerts".

MSNBC seems to be the only one not taking the "Swine Flu" bait.

I agree.  It's a nonstory.  I was only commenting on the contention that three Republicans yanked the provision from the bill.

Rove shit all over the pandemic $ as well...

Bush’s Brain doesn’t appear to be quite so prescient in the face of a potential global flu epidemic.

Writing in a column in the Wall Street Journal in February, Rove attacked Democrats for what he dubbed as reckless spending — stimulus money being doled out to industries “that added jobs last year.”

Among them? Education and healthcare.

What nefarious programs were Democrats trying to insert? Among other things, Rove cited $900 million for “pandemic flu preparations.”

“There’s also $4 billion for health programs like obesity control and smoking cessation, $2 billion for the National Institutes of Health, $462 million for the Centers for Disease Control, and $900 million for pandemic flu preparations,” Rove wrote.

“It is not surprising that the stimulus package is laden with new spending programs,” the former Deputy White House chief of staff continued. “Much of it is spending Democrats couldn’t get approved in the normal course of affairs… Putting budgets of political allies above the budgets of struggling families is apparently the new Democratic trickle-down economics.”

The $900 million Rove rebuked was killed when House and Senate negotiators met to iron out differences of the stimulus package between the two chambers. The Senate nixed the provision, while the House had voted for it.
