didnt ray play in a 4-3 for the better part of his career?
i know playing lb in a 3-4 is going to be a lot more grueling than in a 4-3 where you can roam free more often.
Murder Ray ran the 3-4 in the early 2000's. Wasnt very effective. I think its crazy that these coaches take a player that has been playing "this" for like 20 years (including pop warner and prep and college) and then try to put him in "that" and he is gonna play better...It dosent work. I see it with middles in the 3-4 the most. You cant take a 4-3 middle and make him a 3-4 middle in less than 2 seasons. And thats with crazy film room dedication. It wont happen. Different reads. different linemen fireing off on you. Remember when Ny Jets tried to run that with vilma. He vanished. The same thing with Big safeties, makin them outside linebackers...no it aint gonna happen. A safety sees the game differently. what ever is gonna happen is gonna take like 4-5 seconds. But at linebacker, whatever happens is gonna happen at 2-3 seconds. Reaction time is all different. Tommie Davis (safety from ga now lb) did it alright at Carolina but thats it. REmember Larry Atkins from UCLA..he was like the first big ass safety (6'3 235) well he hit like a mack truck but covered like one too. So they move him to lber thinking he was gonna be a fast lber...well he spent 4 years in the leauge and had 9 tackles. Oh what about Darnell Bing. He was a big safety out of usc..he moved to outside when he hit the raiders now what 4 teams in 3 years. A lot of coaches think this is madden sometimes.
