Decline of "ham" amateur radio a political subject?...yes
« on: June 15, 2009, 11:06:36 PM »
The interest in "ham" radio has greatly declined to the detriment of freedom.   The reason it's a detriment is because because of the shut down of satelite, internet, cell phone connection in Iran...Ham radio can reach internationally and is much harder for government powers to block. Where as the internet can be shut down as easily as turning a bath tab...  Much information of upheaval in less democratic countries is from ham radio operators.
