India rebuffs US carbon demands

India on Sunday night rebuffed an appeal by Hillary Clinton, US secretary of state, to embrace a low-carbon future in which the two countries would work together to devise new ways of consuming and producing energy.

I thought we would lead by our shinning example and Obama would give a speech and every country in the world would do as we do?

What happened? Do these other countries not want to consider economic suicide?
