Not sure what my doctor is trying to do........
« on: July 21, 2009, 05:17:15 AM »
Just wondering if someone could help me with what's going on here.

For a year, I've been on the Testim/Androgel script from my doctor for HRT. This came from my general physician, not an anti-aging doctor. Anyway, over time, the effectiveness of the gel was wearing off, so I wanted to move to getting the shots. Discussed it with my doctor, and determined it came down to a personla choice. So he sent me to an urologist.

I go see the urologist, discuss the situation, and he puts me on 200mg of testosterone ethenate a week.

After three weeks of going to get the shots, he tells me that in 6 to 8 weeks, I'm to go get bloodwork in time before the next visit. For those 6 to 8 weeks, I'll be on nothing.

I don't get it. Is he looking for my T count to all of a sudden rebound? Is this common way to go about this?

If anyone can impart some wisdome on me as to what this may be about, I'd appreciate it. It just sounds strange to me.

Thanks in advance.

LOL. Well, I would if I could. Two real reasons I can't:

1)  I've got no real source from which to buy anything, outside of a script.
2)  I can use my insurance this way

I just don't understand what the doctor may be looking for by me being off for the 6 to 8 weeks. He had all the bloodwork from when I was on the gel.

your doctor doesnt know what he is doing. some doctors are geniuses, others are retards that had rich parents. your doctor is there to serve YOUR best interests, not use you for some experiment. see someone who knows what they are doing

Honestly, I was utterly shocked at what he said.

I'm sure there's some truth to that, but I figured "he's the Doc, let's give him the benefit of the doubt".

Depending on how I feel, I'll probably call him before the time is up to try to get back on sooner rather than later.

Even my wife noticed how mch better my mood was when I wan on the shots, as opposed to the gel.

Pick up the phone ask to speak to him and get his logic on this.  Also let him know your thoughts and logic.  Agree many docs suck and are less knowledgeable about things of this nature than your average poster.

I'm guessing his plan is to have you on the least amount of hormone to keep you in the normal range.  THB this is a reasonable approach for overall health and wellbeing, read less chance for sides of any type.  Remember the doc is trying to keep you ass close to homeostasis as possible, he is not thinking "lets get jacked."  There are good reasons for this in the general population.  Because when you make one change to your biochemistry there will be all kinds of other effects as a result, some good some not so good.

Thanks for the advice and insight everyone, very much appreciated.

I think you are right. I've talked extensively with my general physician about the possible dangers (prostate problems). I lift and stay in shape, but am not a "bodybuilder" per se'. I lost over 100lbs about 5 years ago now and feel good, but after about two years after the weight loss, symptoms consistent with low T-count began to surface, so I began this. What I'll probably wind up doing is staying on the 200mg a week,  maybe bumping up here and there for a short period of time, and getting on with life, maintaining the healthy, weightlifting lifestyle.
