It's fine to spend that amount of money of course but I doubt that he couldn't get the same quality for much less (way better video quality for sure).

that's why it's so expensive. tubes produce the best tones because high end harmonics can only survive in a vacuum. tubes and the technology that accompanies them are not cheap. I work on and build tube guitar amps. its the only form of technology that is over 60 years old and still better than anything modern.
