Phil Heath, over-rated or still the next Mr. O?
« on: September 27, 2009, 12:20:26 PM »
So, Mr. Guns didn't deliver and when compared to his contemporaries he falls lil short. Is he still the heir apparent to the Mr. O title? Was this a clear message to him and to Kai that they best bring freaky size? Will this mean will see a bigger freakier Heath, without regards to having a small waist? And bigger guns? Or has the Phil Heath applecart been knocked over, and people now realize that he was pretty much "hype".

he's reaching his max.  unless he is willing to join the flex wheeler lube club...he should be working on cutting, came in too big.  no way he going to carry coleman or cutler size.  cutler had to come down to get sharp again.

Quite true, even though his arms are not that big, they have illusion to being big. More thickness in his back and legs could do the trick, along with more chest density

He wasn't in his best condition and the lineup was the toughest one he's ever faced, so he did OK under the circumstances. A big, full, cut and dry Phil can still beat everyone except for Jay (and maybe a really dialed-in Kai) in the kind of shape he was in last night, cause that's too much muscle for Phil to handle.

Phil is still young and can claim the title in a year or 2 if he continues to improve and Jay steps down. People said Ronnie's frame couldn't hold more mass than it did at the 2000 Olympia (where he weighed about 265 lb), but he put on a lot more size. I think we'll see Phil compete at 250 - 260 lb in a couple of years or so.

Problem is, as 240 pointed out last year, Phil's waist is gonna be outa control if he joins the 250 crowd. He just doesn't have the frame at 5'9. His arms can get bigger, back thicker, legs bigger, and chest bigger (traps as well), but where does that leave him?

I think Phil has a definite possibility of winning the Mr. O.  Structurally, he is nearly flawless (narrowness notwithstanding), and his back was much, much improved.  If anything, I don't think he needs any more size and that it's a matter of getting that mature, dense Dexter type muscle coupled with the conditioning that Phil had last year.  Now, Wolf, unfortunately lost his status as a contender as far as I am concerned.  Time to fire Chad for sure.

I don't think his waist will get out of control if he packs on another 15 - 20 lb, as long as he doesn't try to do it within a year (I don't think he will). Phil is like Shawn Ray in his approach to bodybuilding while being just as focused and determined, so I think he'll do what it takes to become Mr Olympia. And that is to put on more size.

I disagree that his frame can't support the extra weight. He can easily weigh 260 - 265 lb onstage and look just as dry and freaky.

Phil looks great as he is, but I don't think he can win the Olympia weighing 240 - 245 lb, esp. next year or in 2011. He needs to be just as muscular as guys like Kai to convincingly win. Wolf was a let down, but I think he'll bounce back too, cause he'd only need to panic if he placed where he did while looking at his near best.

True -- Wolf still has a lot of potential.  I wonder if he will do the 2010 Arnold?

Possibly, only time will tell. I wonder how much Jay figures into his prep and can that be a deciding factor. Could his placing light a fire under his ass as well, a la Jay Cutler?

As far Wolf, he has not made improvements since he got on the mr o stage. I said it in the past (2006,2007) that he is no threat, this Russo-German is a Euro hype machine, just like Alexander Federov, Shaun Davies, and Alexander Federov

phil is pretty much 30.  260 and i think he turns in the mess flex was at the end of his career.  diced at 250(?) and he is a 4-time MrO.  but he has to be on 100% to hold off the big guys which was exposed last night.  if u remember shawn couldnt even hold his conditioning at 218.  phil has limits based on his structure.
