The government is being encouraged to prepare to block websites and Internet traffic in the event of a worsening swine flu pandemic that results in network congestion, a move that represents a potential end run around the agenda to regulate the world wide web.

A report by the General Accountability Office warns that a severe pandemic, or a worsening of the H1N1 outbreak, could result in 40 percent absentee rates at work and school, meaning that the Internet would be overloaded with people working from home as well as bored children sucking up bandwidth via online gaming.

Securities exchanges already have back-up systems to cope with such a scenario but the same cannot be said for general commerce, warns the report, adding that the federal government, specifically Homeland Security, should be given the power to block certain websites and regulate Internet traffic.

“Private Internet providers might need government authorization to block popular websites, the report states, or to reduce residential transmission speeds to make way for commerce,” according to a Reuters article.

Every opportunity is being used to restrict, clamp down, make excuses to violate the people of america. Strange part is everyone is just sitting round letting it happen....

Ha ha Samson!  Are you kidding or what?  Our population is so dumbed down, so soft and weakened, we as a population will accept anything at this point.  ANYTHING!

We still have people around here begging for more free stuff from other taxpayers, focusing on Fox v. MSNBC, Palin, making all sorts of excuses for Bush Part 3, etc.

That article was crazy.  I guess any excuse will do for our government to control us.

I wish people would realize that we have some of the slowest internet speeds in the world.  We don't have shit compared to Japan, S. Korea, I think even China has faster speeds then us.

I'm sure it won't be long until you have Alex Jones claiming that "the government" is planning on shutting down the internet.

And that the swine flu was planted by the government.  ::)

Of course, in order to "control" everyone.

Hey IDIOT maybe you should learn to R. E. A. D. Farrakhan said the disease was created TO KILL PEOPLE...that means ALL RACES (did you take the shot?...I hope so)

Farrakhan suspicious of H1N1 vaccine

MEMPHIS, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan told an audience in Memphis he believes the H1N1 flu vaccine was developed to kill people, a witness said.

Farrakhan, 76, spoke for nearly three hours Sunday at a gathering to observe the religious group's Holy Day of Atonement, which also marked the 14th anniversary of the Million Man March in Washington, the (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported, citing a source who attended the speech.

"The Earth can't take 6.5 billion people. We just can't feed that many. So what are you going to do? Kill as many as you can. We have to develop a science that kills them and makes it look as though they died from some disease," Farrakhan said, adding that many wise people won't take the vaccine.

"The black community has become toxic and must cleanse and restore peace from within," Farrakhan said.

Farrakhan told listeners not to become complacent as a result of Barack Obama's election as the United States' first black president, the newspaper said.

"You have to understand that he was voted in to take on the affairs of a nation, not yours and mine. He is the American president, not the black president," he said.

The original story comes from Reuters.

Then add the usual "conclusions" from the "Truth Movement".

But if you read the Reuters article, it's not even focusing on how the Government is gonna seize control.

It's focusing on how the Homeland Security is getting slammed for lacking a plan for if a crisis comes.

But if you look at "prisonplanets" version, they focus on different things:

The Department of Homeland Security’s Jerald Levine hinted that the feds would be eager to regulate the web and block websites in the event of a pandemic, stating, “An expectation of unlimited Internet access during a pandemic is not realistic.”

Making it look like the "Government" has an interest in shutting down peoples internet access in general.

But the real issue, which is discussed in the ORIGINAL article, but that issue is probably not sexy enough for all "Truthers", is that the Internet infrastructure is too fragile to hold for people being at home.

So instead of having the focus brought on a very important issue - poor internet infrastructure - Alex Jones and his henchmen manages to derail the whole thing into a pseudo story.

Because they want the "Truth".

Because they don't think real issues are sexy enough.

It's a joke.

Whats a joke is that they actually think that this is something that will keep enough people home to "clog" the internet.

Whats a joke is that they actually think that this is something that will keep enough people home to "clog" the internet.

Let me give you a totally different example.

During Super Bowl halftime break, that's when the sewer system is strained the most.

And, at least in previous years, has run real risk of overloading.

Why?

Because everyone rushes to take a piss during the break.

It's not as bad these days with all the commercial breaks apparently.

But it goes to show you that our "system" in some areas is pretty fragile.

I see internet infrastructure growing the whole time.

How could it be nearly enough if people were forced to be at home?

I think there is a potential of overload and crash.

You don't.

But hey - if it crashes, then we could all claim it is the "government". "They're" trying to "shut us down".

I am not an expert at all.

Just have a basic understanding.

From what I understand, the internet traffic goes through access stations.

And all these access stations are not equally built.

Doesn't all have the same epic capacity.

But I will freely admit that I know very little on this.

If you have "the truth" (no pun) go ahead.

I'm interested (no homo). 8)

Without going all techie on your ass(no homo), our we purchase internet(the customer) from an ISP.  Our ISP leases space on a either a larger ISP or on an NSP.  NSP's exchange data and share bandwidth usage from customers via MAE's or NAP's.  The only people in this chain guaranteed internet service are people purchasing t-1,3, oc-xx.  They are guaranteed by the FCC to maintain their given speed regardless of time of day, etc.  We as the consumer do not have this privilege.  Our internet is "throttled" here.  In the event that tons of people got online, comcast, my isp, would just throttle all the users back to an acceptable speed based on the number of people connected.
