Good, Factual Information
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:46:42 AM »
It wasn't until I began to work for a major pharmaceutical company and able to see the numbers that go into research vs. what's profited overall that I began to understand the need for money to keep up with innovations.  Nice article and vid included:

Would ObamaCare Kill Medical Innovation?
by Nick Gillespie
reason.tv

As health care reform inches closer to reality, a massively important question becomes even more pressing: Will ObamaCare kill the sorts of medical innovation that makes the United States the leader in bringing new treatments, technology, and procedures to market?

“America is the only industrialized nation that doesn’t have a national health plan,” says Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.), former Gov. Howard Dean (D-Vt.), and countless others who want the United States government to guarantee health coverage to all.

Protesters at a recent rally in downtown Los Angeles demanded universal coverage. They told Reason.tv that America is a cruel land where profits come before people.

“It’s disgusting!” said one woman. “There should be no profits in health care!” What about those who argue that profits drive medical innovation? “I think that’s kind of sick,” declared another protester, who wants the U.S. to be more like Canada, where government policy keeps drug prices, and drug company profits, lower than in America.

Many regard the profit motive as cruel, but it actually produces compassionate results. After all, America has generated vastly more medical innovations than other nations. Included in the long list is the innovation that saved the life of Dave Christensen, construction supervisor, husband, and father. After being diagnosed with cancer, Christensen was lucky enough to be given a then-experimental drug that probably wouldn’t have been developed or brought to market in any other country in the world.

If America follows the lead of the rest of the world and clamps down on profits in health care, who will make tomorrow’s wonder drugs?

Since there is no such thing as ObamaCare I'd have to answer the question as "No"

the only innovation that is occurring is the mass transfer of wealth from Drug buyers to sellers. that's grand larceny without representation

Fine, than why are you silent on the deal the WH made with the drug companies to keep this garbage going?

The Huffington Post did great research on this, yet you, Straw, and the rest of the obamabots sit there silent.

333 - you seem to forgot the times that I've agreed with you on things that I don't like about the Obama admin, Goldman Sachs, Geitner etc...

The only difference between you and me is that I try to look at all sides and I'm aware that nothing is perfect in this world

Your solutions to many of our problems would make things profoundly worse and since you make your living collecting bad debts I sometimes suspect that you want things to get worse

Actually no Straw.  I work off a commission basis and if people are broke with nothing to pay, I dont make anything.

As far as the topic at hand, the Huff Post did great reporting on the deal Obama made with the Drug Companies.

Who else reported that other than me?

I have more business than ever before Straw.  However, banks are not lending, people are broke, and bankruptcy filings are still going nuts.

Just because I am busy does not translate into more $$$$.  I do mostly large construction projects in NYC and it is like a war zone lately.  The owners are screwing the GC's, the GC's screwing the subs, the subs screwing the suppliers, everyone  screwing the unions and workers comp boards.  Its crazy.

dude - I have no issue with you making money.   I like making money too.

I'm kind of suprised you care about anyone "screwing" the unions.  Since when do you give two shits about unions?

I dont give a shit about the union, but what happens is that the clients have to file certified payrolls on a lot of these jobs and it comes back leter to bite them in the ass since there is personal liability for that crap.

Nicky, again, where has it been proven that Niacin has the same level of effect on the lowing of LDL as the pharmaceuticals?
