Bingo. Tesla Roadster and whitestar, Chevy Volt, Toyota's plug-in Prius and others, BMW's hydrogen cars (a few years further down the road)... they're coming. Everyone knows the oil dries up in 30 years or so, and it takes at least 15 to cycle old cars off the road, so do the math.
Funny (not haha, rather ironic) is these cars sometimes do more damage than their fossil fuel counterparts. Just more stupid people believing that the government knows best.
The Tesla is basically a government owned bailed out company the founder drove into the ground, scammed investors, and finally got some of the green+GM bailout cash. It's a perfect case of a POS guy being rewarded for being a POS. And the cars are still $100K+ -- it was supposed to be a commodity miracle car. So for them to sell at a reasonable price, they sell at a loss - now subsidized by the tax payer. Yey.
The Prius, Volt, Tesla, etc. are known to have a bigger environmental impact than the full life cycle of a Hummer due to the batteries monster environmental destruction once they die and have to be replaced.
The corn cars are impacting countries like Mexico. Just the other day I was talking to a friend from Mexico who was telling me basic things like "corn" tortillas aren't really corn anymore (mostly fillers) because corn is now so expensive they can't afford the real thing...due to ethanol.
We'll see about hydrogen cars. I like the idea but people w/o an understanding think Hindenburg. But in the ones I've read about, hydrogen is actually created on-the-fly and used immediately. Might not be the case in the BMW though -- I don't know.
