WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract by the Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) division of the Department of Homeland Security to supply a maximum of 200 million, 40 cal. rounds over the next five years.

The load selected for this contract is a 135-grain, hollow point designed for the office of Field Operations of Customs and Border Protection. It will fall under the Winchester Ranger line.

I wouldn't worry about this.  This is a 5-year order.  They have 200k employees.  40 cal is the standard carry caliber, most being glocks then sig and H&K.  That's 1000 rounds per employee over 5 years.  Considering they carry 50+ round and do get free unlmited range ammo, I'm guessing some of those guys burn thru 1000 or 2000 rounds in a day like its nothing.


if it was 200 mil rounds of 223, i'd be like "WTF".  but they carry and range practice this caliber (hopefully they use cheaper ammo for practice, but it wouldn't surprise me).  You don't want to go to battle with a 40 cal... you use that to make it to your long arm lol...

This seems like normal ordering for the next 5 years, buying in bulk.

Exactly 240, as I'm sure you're a responsible firearm owner you know that you have to practice as much as you can affored to. 

1. .40 is the new standard for most law enforcement personnel.  Most local precints carry firearms chambered in the .40.

2.  That isn't that much considering it's over 5 years and these guys need to practice and/or qualify several times a year.

No doubt.  At least their using domestic ammo.  All I can get lqately is russian crap.
