Michigan Family Looks to Congress to Fight Deportation Order After Being in U.S. For 18 Years:

WASHINGTON —  When Guy and Genevieve Vang came to the United States 18 years ago, they thought they did everything they needed to do to raise their family and work legally in the United States.

They and their two children came to the United States from France, the country they fled to after they escaped war in Laos and Vietnam. They got working papers, filed for political asylum and waited.

They eventually opened up a restaurant, Bangkok 96, in Dearborn, Mich., and had two more children. But they continued to wait on word from the government about their asylum application.

The wait lasted more than 10 years.

And now, in fewer than 60 days unless Congress intervenes, they likely will be deported.

Dude it is fucked.

I personally know quite a few in the same boat.  One guy that works the cruise gigs with me at times came here from France.  College educated, no criminal record, co-owns two properties with another guy (US citizen), pays taxes and owns a business collecting hair from participating salons and beauty schools for making into wigs to sell on the market or to donate to cancer patients.  He has been here 4 years and when his time is up in May he has to leave the country for 36 months.  His business which is extremely in demand by the wealthy spinsters up in Palm Beach will be kaput.

Another guy is from Spain and runs an eBay biz where he is a power seller with 100% feedback and over 300 sales per month.  He teaches (volunteers) English as Second Language at the community center (can't teach at school level because he only has Associates Degree right now), and works in South Beach as a consultant.  Has a job, meaningful employment, pays taxes, not in any trouble, and he can't be approved for a green card either.

But every Hispanic or Cuban bar tender in South Beach or car wash attendant, or valet parking jockey with no education, no prospects for meaningful employment can come here and get one.  Sad thing is that in addition to his regular job, his volunteer work, and his ebay biz, he also takes college classes 3x during the week and 8 hours each day of the weekend along with distance e-learning (credited online classes) in an effort to try to race and beat the clock to get his 4 year degree before he has to leave next year.  Dude is carrying around 26 credit hours this semester with his classes and online learning classes combined.  The kicker here is that he doesn't qualify for financial aid because he actually WORKS, but at the Miami Dade College every single immigrant down there on probation or wearing house arrest anklets gets a free ride.  Commit a crime, earn a free college degree it seems.

Its called political power.  The people in your example have no organized group stamping their feet for them and hence, will get screwed.

The border jumpers dropping babies like cluster bombs get all the preference.

What about the bus loads of illegal immigrants taken from Mexico across the border into the US by American meat packing corporations, while the US gov. turns a blind eye?

Two of the 9/11 terrorists got their papers, after they were dead even.
