Does John McCain want to influence Obama’s Healthscare Bill by banning natural foods, supplements, and herbs?

By Mary Conley, MNH, N.D.

Once again herbalists, health food consumers, and those who wish an alternate choice for their own healthcare decisions are under fire. It seems John McCain of all people wants to ban supplements and herbs from health food stores and in commercial establishments.

This is an extreme disappointment. John McCain had stood by the Conservative base in opposing all things Obama, but this seems to be a huge jump on the Obama bandwagon that is limping along to take our health freedoms away. Maybe its time for McCain to retire? Please contact your reps to oppose this.

Anyone opposing such a measure has no idea who uses alternative medicine. It is lifegiving for many groups: those who have chemical sensitivities to AMA drugs; those who have multi-chemical sensitive allergies to our environments; those who have been hurt by taking a rushed-to-market bad drug; children; animals; the elderly who are so adversely affected by over-medicating; those who have worked in the drug companies and know the junk they put in these drugs; those who have addictions and wish to never take a drug again; and those of us who know the dangers of chemicals and wish/choose for a better, healthier lifestyle in a free country.

When I began practicing 20 years ago I found all of the above groups flocking to my clinics. Since then I’ve been told by the State of Maryland I could not put up a sign that said “Natural Pharmacy” because pharmacy = a place that dispenses DRUGS. So the drug industry is now claiming words. I’m lucky I don’t have to advertise, people come to me by word of mouth. There are more and more of us who are choosing to write courses for the ethical use and study of alternative medicines. I currently have consulted on several nursing textbooks for herbs by a major textbook company. The days of “snake oil salesmen” are by the wayside. Most of us are highly ethical, spiritual people who only wish to provide for our patients in a safe manner. We open our doors all day every day, do not rely on answer machines, do not do 15 minute visits, and deal with our patients in a respectful manner. Our clients do not need insurance plans. This is unheard of in the AMA medical practices today. Most doctors are now trained by the drug reps on which drug to dispense (usually at hundreds of dollars for #30 pills/month) when maybe a good referral or some time with the patient will do better.

With our current medical system people have begun to flock to those of us in the Natural Health Field. Senator McCain would change all of that. Yet he has made bad calls before and this too will be defeated by people like us. So let’s get going and tell Sen. McCain, who is campaigning for re-election to his Senate seat right about now.

i don't believe in banning supplements but better regulation should be in order.  it's far too easy to pass off an illegitimate product and potentially unsafe product.

I believe in full disclosure and full freedom.  Let the customer decide.

Exactly.  But it's pretty hard for them to decide when anyone can make any unfounded claim they like.  It should be on the label what is in it, where it was made, if it is a certified clean plant or someones basement, and if a claim is made it should have to be backed up.  otherwise it's lying.  Right now the deck is stacked against the consumer and it's not freedom at all, it's blatant lies like when muscletech claim 140% greater muscle growth, that should be substantiated and if it's false taken off the package.

That's why I stick to the Sam Adams, BK, Taco Bell, Miller Light, KFC diet.   ;D  ;D  ;D

Honestly, I did the whole supplement thing for years.  The only thing I ever found to really really REALLY work was AST Dymet in the little white tabs, but you cant even get those anymore the way they used to be.

well exactly, none of it works the way it's suppose to unless it has an actual drug in it and the FDA get on that pretty soon.

AST Dymet was the best ever.  Nothing came even close in my eyes.

The protein power is fine for a meal replacements, but the whole glutamine, creatine, etc is just by and large a waste of money IMHO.

At 34 y/o I am stronger than ever and dont take any of that stuff.  Sometimes I use Natural Perfect RX meal replacement cause I liek the flavor but thats it.

Before I work out I always have a Sugar Free Red Bull and Kit Kat and 20 minutes later its off to the fucking races.

You realize you're arguing the same arguments pro choice proponents of legalized abortions have made for years?

The active in Dymatadrine extreme or whatever it's called can be easily found at the drugstore..It's called ephedrine..Mix it with some caffeine and it will produce the same effects as that supplement
