Yeah it lost a lot in translation. Namely all of the grittyness and edge, the remake was too shiny, too smooth. It's the same when they remake the 70's horror movies, the streamlined production just kills the atmosphere.
Teddy was a dark guy, everytime Don was going postal Gandhi and his non-violence speech pops into my head, scene killer.
