The back is an extremely complex amalgamation of numerous muscles. To think that a natural bodybuilder could adequately cause muscle tissue microtears to induce hypertrophy to all of these muscles under the guise of a "Back Day Training" session is rediculous and will cause overtraining and ultimately an underdeveloped back. I suggest the following protocol to induce maximum back musclulature hypertrophy:
Day 1: Normal Day 1 muscle group training plus spinal erectors and upper trapezius training
Day 3: Normal Day 3 muscle group training plus lower lats, rear deltoids and rhomboid training
Day 5: Normal Day 5 muscle group training plus upper lats, lower trapezius insertion and back thickness training
The reason I suggest pairing spinal erectors with upper trapezius training is so that one can hit both muscle groups simultaneously with deficit deadlifts/rack pulls. I paired lower lats with rhomboids and rear deltoids since low rowing movements activate all 3 muscles and close grip pulldowns activate lower lats and rhomboids. Finally, upper lats, lower trapezius and back thickness training have been paired since bent over rows and wide grip, straight bar pull-ups will activate all three.
