apparently the volcano has now started to spew lava, which is a good sign, because they say that a volcano tends to only do one at a time (either ash or lava). I don't know much about the secret lives of volcanoes, so anybody please correct me if that is wrong.
Most of Europe has been opened again, but it will take about three days for airlines to fully resume their schedule, as in many cases their planes and crews are in the wrong airports. Priority will be given to people who are already booked on the resumed flights over people who are stranded. Most airlines plan to reserve some of the not yet booked seats for those who are stranded or use extra planes, coaches and trains to repatriate stranded passengers, many of which are already in Spain, Italy or Austria as their airports were less affected by the ash cloud, so some airlines have been rerouting their flight there over the last days to bring passengers closer (e.g. train distance) to their destinations.
