Squatting, abs and belts.
« on: May 03, 2010, 05:14:41 PM »
Would I be correct in assuming that when you wear a belt it creates extra intra-abdominal pressure when you squat?

If this is the case would it be silly to use a belt when squatting if I think I have a hernia as it may increase the pressure?

Or would wearinga  belt actually protect it and help my abs?

you really need a belt when squatting heavy, expecially if you do full rom, i put mine prety tight, i doubt its good for organs, o often get cramps in the stomach, but it does protect your back a lot

and one also important thing, you need to find a sweet spot for the belt, if its half an inch not correcty it can give you discomfort

I have been belting up. 'Heaby' front squats and no ab training has maybe finally caught up with me  :-\

But does wearinga  belt increase liklihood of a hernia?

hmm i forgot to train abs too, i dont think it can cause hernia, only if you had hernia history prior to belt use, i think its possible that the belt can aggravate some
