The Unkillable Cow Ant (Velvet Ant).
« on: May 02, 2010, 01:48:59 PM »
Has anybody ever come across these? A Cow Ant is a wingless wasp, that looks like a very large red velvety ant, that when stepped on, doesn't really bite the dust. I remember these as a child, highly agressive lil buggers, I used to step on them and fuckers would be flatten, yet still alive...and their name implies that their sting is enough to kill a cow

I'm lucky enough to live in a part of the world where nothing natural kills. I'd hate be kickin around and stumble across vicious ants.    ;D

As a wee lad, we would have these in our back yard, I was practicing on being the black Marty Stouffer (Wild America tv show, look him up), you step on them, and they would not die, had to do the "step and wipe", and it had to be on a solid flat surface, preferably on a patio. Each time you step on them, they would get progressively madder (you would too) and come after you. I've never been stung, but I guess it would hurt.

Not like this though

Never seen one Parker, but off topic if you have ever caught a catfish then cleaned one meaning cutting the head off and preparing it to cook they still live for sometime and still stick you with the wiskers. Also they can live out of water a strange species.

In my case I came up with two, a viper and a bear.  :)
