YONKERS — A 47-year-old city man who walked over to check on what he thought was a fallen bicyclist was stabbed in the stomach by the "victim" and robbed of $372, police said.
The incident happened at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday near South Broadway and St. Mary's Street, across the street from Yonkers police headquarters, police said.
The victim saw the man lying on the ground by a bicycle. The victim approached the man to check on him and was stabbed.
The man then told the good Samaritan to get up against the wall and robbed his money. He then jumped on the bicycle and pedaled away.
The man was described as Hispanic, 28, and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was said to wear a green jacket and hoodie.
Police said the good Samaritan walked to nearby St. Joseph's Medical Center on South Broadway after the attack, where hospital officials said he needed 17 stitches to close an 8-inch cut.
