Sugar before a workout = bad idea. Both Scott Abel (blood sugar crash during) and Poliquin (insulin blunts catecholamine release) have spoken on this recently and on this I agree with Poliquin. You want your stimulants to have their full effect, no carbs close to the onset of your training.

if eating carbs or drinking sugars before your workout makes you feel tired, lethargic, lazy, or just inhibits your training in some way... then i would not do it!! 


but if your training isnt impeded upon by doing so, then its a very very good idea to take some carbs/sugars before-during-after the workkout
