In jail for being in debt
« on: June 10, 2010, 03:33:39 PM »
America Whatta Great country!!!!

Didn't this woman know that in order to stay out of jaill she had to steal like a Wall Street Banker? You don't fall into debt, you don't steel a single grape off of a fruit stand, don't steal fish out of a fish market...YA GOTTA STEAL BILLIONS FORM INNOCENT PEOPLE TO STAY FREE... JUST ASK MADOFF, LAY, AND BANKER, ANY WALL STREETER, FANNIE MAE, FREDDIE MAC, INDY MAC etc etc etc

In jail for being in debt

Glen Stubbe, Star Tribune

Deborah Poplawski still gets angry about her arrest in Minneapolis last year over an old $250 debt. During her night in jail, she worried about abandoning her 15-year-old dog, Nina, in her apartment.

You committed no crime, but an officer is knocking on your door. More Minnesotans are surprised to find themselves being locked up over debts.

By CHRIS SERRES and GLENN HOWATT , Star Tribune staff writers

As a sheriff's deputy dumped the contents of Joy Uhlmeyer's purse into a sealed bag, she begged to know why she had just been arrested while driving home to Richfield after an Easter visit with her elderly mother.

No one had an answer. Uhlmeyer spent a sleepless night in a frigid Anoka County holding cell, her hands tucked under her armpits for warmth. Then, handcuffed in a squad car, she was taken to downtown Minneapolis for booking. Finally, after 16 hours in limbo, jail officials fingerprinted Uhlmeyer and explained her offense -- missing a court hearing over an unpaid debt. "They have no right to do this to me," said the 57-year-old patient care advocate, her voice as soft as a whisper. "Not for a stupid credit card."

It's not a crime to owe money, and debtors' prisons were abolished in the United States in the 19th century. But people are routinely being thrown in jail for failing to pay debts. In Minnesota, which has some of the most creditor-friendly laws in the country, the use of arrest warrants against debtors has jumped 60 percent over the past four years, with 845 cases in 2009, a Star Tribune analysis of state court data has found.

Not every warrant results in an arrest, but in Minnesota many debtors spend up to 48 hours in cells with criminals. Consumer attorneys say such arrests are increasing in many states, including Arkansas, Arizona and Washington, driven by a bad economy, high consumer debt and a growing industry that buys bad debts and employs every means available to collect.

Whether a debtor is locked up depends largely on where the person lives, because enforcement is inconsistent from state to state, and even county to county.

In Illinois and southwest Indiana, some judges jail debtors for missing court-ordered debt payments. In extreme cases, people stay in jail until they raise a minimum payment. In January, a judge sentenced a Kenney, Ill., man "to indefinite incarceration" until he came up with $300 toward a lumber yard debt.

Well, our prisons and jails are certainly overcrowded for this type of petty shit, but you can't just blow off a court date.  If word got around that you could just ignore court hearings at will, it would be far more problematic.

What are you talking about? Madoff's in JAIL and Ken Lay CROAKED, during his trial, before he could be sentenced to prison.

You need to join the Madoff thread I have going.

I'm trying to get Madoff's location so I can pull a dog the bounty hunter.

I guess people are just fabricating the on-camera and personal interviews of Madoff, BEHIND BARS. Next, you'll be claiming that the corpse in Lay's casket is just a mannequin.  ::)

A lot easier to just go down to Wall Street and arrest everyone at Goldman Sachs and/or AIG. They have done a lot more financial damage than Lay or Madoff and NONE OF THEM ARE IN JAIL or on a Caribbean or South pacific Island hiding with new faces and/or identities... I am sure the american people will cheer when they hear of them being arrested.

Come back to the boards when you have accomplished this task 3

What then makes you think you could go to another country and carry a weapon and arrest someone?

Nonetheless I think swarms of Yenta lawyers will come to your aid if you are arrested for the arrest of the AIG/Goldman Sachs Execs. Even the american pubic will pay for your legal fees for doing what needed to be done...

This may come as a shock to you, but many prisoners DON'T wear jumpsuits with stripes. And the photos of Madoff's incarcerations are quite plentiful. Look them up.

As for Lay, he croaked in 2006. Go to his gravesite and see for yourself. Or, if you're still not convinced (and can pull it off, without being thrown in jail yourself), try excavating his body.

You're appearance is no excuse and does not matter. Just go arrest the execs and I guarantee you the best of the best attorneys will represent you PRO BONO if necessary, but again the american public will gladly pay all of you legal fees, simply because they too are victims of Goldman and AIG.... Suit up and lock and load 3... no more damn excuses.

Ok, a citizens arrest.  I'll do it if you can get me a letter of representation from Skadden Arps, White & Case, Murray "Dont Worry Murray" Richmond, and Kuby picking up the defense.

You don't need any letters from me or any legal firm. After you have accomplished the task the best attorneys in america and maybe the world will show up before the police can even get to you and represent you. There will be parades up and down the main boulevards in New York and america and the reclaimed money stolen by AIG and Goldman Sachs will definitely restart america. Damn 3 you have a major responsibility before you....but alas you seem to be SCARED!. You can not go hunt for Madoff if you are scared to hunt for AIG/Goldman who are right at your finger tips...

You know there is saying that TALK IS CHEAP...it was just proven here.

OK, maybe going after Madoff and Lay will be easier.... Both men are right here on Big Ambergris Cay... Come on down and capture them...
