While the elites in business, religion, and state have always had their boots on the neck of the people things are not hopeless.  The machine loves to show propoganda depicting their total control, and while it is strong, it is not invincible.  If it was, they wouldn't have to use fear as their driving weapon...and if you notice, fear is all that's portrayed and depicted "as reality".  fear of liberals, fear of conservatives, fear of the left/right. fear of the hispanics, fear of the muslims, fear of the enviroment, fear of the economy, fear of losing your job, fear of your credit score, fear of whites, fear of blacks, fear of terrorists, and most importantly fear of each other.

What the elites fail to realize is that the most awsome power in the universe isn't the H-Bomb or poverty but the power of each man and women to stand up, say "no!" and take the consequences.  This is the ultimate truth, the reason Socrates drank the hemlock, the reason Hectro leaves his wife and son to fight Achilles in the Illiad, the reason 300 Spartans stood their ground against a million Persians, the reason why the Buddha left his palace at 18, the reason Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independance in the face of the greatest military of its time, the reason MLK walked out into the sniper's sights that morning, the reason all great men have done their deeds.  

If I may paraphrase Chomsky, "While each generation has an uphill battle to fight it must be remembered that in end...in the end...every form of human tyranny and every empire has been overthrown."  It may take generations but it should be remembered that the people do win out.

It may very well be that the sum of your life is simply to face the Goliath with open eyes and the hope that your sons will see what you've done and become better men for it.

Actually, over here many blacks do. All my friends 26-35 have them. Where I live, you have the most concentration of young professional blacks in the country. So, iPhones, blackberries, and to a far lesser extent Droids are the norm, not the exception.

Forgot to mention Blackberries.  I see more black professionals with those than with iPhones, by far, but admittedly, you see far more black professionals in a day than I will in 4 years. LOL

Question: do I qualify for the 'black professional' demographic even though I don't have a job or involvement in any community organizations (other than youth sports)??

Yes, and the LAST thing I want to do is go bobbing around like some asshole with headphones.  The sounds of Nature are wonderful and see no reason why I would want to be bombarded constantly with Music.  

I'm perfectly happy to sit quietly without having to listen to music, but, when you live in a crowded city, not having an IPOD leaves one susceptible to getting trapped having to listen to some idiot's cellphone conversation. Without an IPOD to block out the noise, I'd probably be typing this from a jail cell.

Microsoft is a bullshit company, all it's money ever came from the monopoly it mantains. I like Mac's I think there a rich man's computer, however iphones, are just more of this useless trend. The whole brand is based on being a status feature. People talk about all the features and the only truly useful ones are for listening to music, the rest is just a childish gimmick.

American's drive me nuts, they want status symbols yet fail to realize that's what they are.  Status is part of life, we've been obtaining status to lure bitches since the beginning of time,  trying to ignore that fact is treehugging hippy bs. Status is good however smart status is better. If you spend half your income on high priced housing, every dollar you  put in you will get back(when you sell it), however if you blow half your income on overpriced childish trinkets, with no resale value, prepare to fail.   I prefer the 20 dollar mp3 player at walmart and spend the savings elsewhere.

Tre, your last statement. Some women do that, but many get the degrees for self validation, some are just as hood, and dealing with dudes in the same boat, who are just as hood. I can tell you, I have been bypassed by certain women who were feeling me, now that they got their degrees, they want a Tyson Beckford with a PhD, yet this same woman didn't know what "nmn" (no middle name) stood for...
And then, you have to have a certain job, certain income, never mind the fact that she or they are indebt, and the dude is barely making the payments on the house or condo.

Also in my area (DC) you have tons of black professionals who make good money, but they spend it all on going out to eat and alcohol, so they are basically broke, but perpetrating like they everything under control.  Buying clothes at Neiman Marcus yet driving a Carolla and putting down the dude who has a leased BMW 7 series, and they are in debt like a mofo. I don't really see an iphone as a status feature.  I mean you can buy one for 99 bucks.  Not exactly breaking anyones bank. Maybe i'm slewed bc I live in a pretty rich area, but it takes a lot more to have status then a couple mac products.
